Raffles Lighthouse

Went to Raffles Lighthouse area yesterday after collecting my trial batch of cement cuboids fr St John's, Jani, Marco, Michelle and Wai were supposed to go screw Jani's tiles dn.... being the only non-diver, the best that I cld do was like snorkel and try my best to see stuff... First off, there was the 'leisure' dive/snorkel near the jetty area. Marco was like a kid who just got his Christmas presents when he saw the number of fishies ^^ Since I cld barely make out their shapes, can really tell wat they were, except for like angelfishies.... The boatmen were having a heyday catching loads of nicely sized fishies for cooking.... Visibility was actually pretty decent, ard 3-4m (hazarding a guess since I can't really estimate distances underwater..) Pretty exciting being able to see corals in home waters, and near islands that I have nv been to too! First thing is to get dive license, then join BWVs... Was nearer the reef crest, so mainly boulder formed ones and encrusting ones.... All the guck we haf in our waters *sigh* Was stung a couple of times on my right arm but nothing serious, tho one of those stings left a slight cut... Got some weird cuts on my left leg, and the prob w getting cuts in the sea is that (1) they dun scab over properly (2) u dun notice the cut til u are out of water and realise u are dripping blood (thank goodness that there are no shark sightings in SG) One thing that startled me was the sudden appearance of salps (Planktonic tunicates; small, transparent, barred-shaped free-swimming planktonic animals belonging to the Subphylum Urochordata [tunicates], Class Thaliaca.) that were basically sprouting out from the dark greenish SG waters below..... Little jelly like stuff nicely lined up in pairs just EVERYWHERE.... Thot they were some jellyfish spawning event or sth at first but since they din sting.... Pretty amazing seeing all those little blobby salps just floating everywhere.... They ARE actually kinda cute, once u get over the initial surprise of seeing them floating ard ^^ Salp boom!! Undergg sexual phase, so kinda colonial ^^

[Salp linkies]
(1) Salps and Ctenophores
(2) The Salps (class Thalicea)
(3) Australian Antarctic Divisions - Salps
(4) Salps

My poor knees are slightly burnt... from the boatride, as well as dangling my legs into the water when we were on the other side of Raffles Lighthouse, and waiting for the currents to die dn.... Next outing wld be to Underwater World on Friday, to go see the Pocillopora.... Wonder if I shld just go for a joyride on Sat when Jani goes dn again.... Looking at me, u prob wldn't figure out that it's actually reading week ^^ heehee.... Guess I shld head home and start on mugging Jap... Still need to continue w DNA extraction at the environmental engineering lab tmr (dun ask y I am not doing it in sci... long story... but the gd thing is that (1) the prof is SUPER nice (2) he has worked on biofilm and their relation to recruitment of marine inverts, so...)

reading week?

*sigh* the semester has officially ended.... and I think I just died-ed for my Japanese oral.... we had to face Okada-sensei due to the sitting arrangements *grumbles* that just makes me like dunno how many times more nervous than usu..... so pressurising... oh wells, good thing that my papers start pretty late, allowing me some time to go to TMSI and stuff (like go back to reading my non-textbook books ^^reading wk IS for reading!!).... gg dn again tmr, might even get a chance to snorkel a little ard Raffles Lighthouse while the rest dive ^^ Pretty cool that NUS has it's own dive boat, Mudskipper, and I get to ride on it!!! heehee.... wanna go get my license soon.... then can go diving w the rest of the lab pple.... feel pretty lousy being confined to snorkelling and land stuff...

been really lousy at updating stuff.. both here and in my actual diary, but then again, I nv was really gd at any kind of follow ups, be it keeping in touch w frens or constantly studying or even constant blogging/diary writing... oh wellz.... sometimes I do feel like becoming some social recluse... *darn* this is turning into one of those semi-coherent entries again.... seems like my bio clock *still* hasn't recovered from friday-saturday... Wat happened on friday? Pdus had a BBQ cum birthday celeb. Went earlier in the afternoon to help w the prep (along w another one of his frens, meaning I got to make a new fren...) Stayed over at NSRCC since it is like at the OTHER side of Singapore, and there was just no point going home, and as usu, this kinda sleepovers end up w staying up late to watch movies and random ads on Pdus' G5 (yesh, he brought that over, along w like nearly a quarter of his hse...), meaning I only had 2 hours plus of sleep that day, concussed when I got home on Saturday, slept the entire afternoon, meaning I cldn't sleep til like past midnight last night, thus my semi-coherent state of mind at the moment... and I need to be in lab like at 8.3oam tmr too.... my bio clock gets messed up pretty easily (yet another reason why I prob can't take part in any win-a-car challenges), tho because it nv can get settled in properly, I can basically condition myself to work at any hour... the BBQ was pretty gd, doubled up as a semi-gathering of ACJC pple, so we cld catch up a little w one another, tho' since it was Pdus' party at the same time, it was like a cluster of ACJC pple, a bunch of his sec school pals, and his church frens who were there w family and stuff... and today I find out that the juniors are gonna try and org another MRC gathering in early Dec to coincide w the week that Mr Loke wld be back in sunny ol' SG....

Juan must remember to start studying on Tues... mug mug mug mug mug....

something to de-stress ^^

Gaurav and Gerard bullied me into watching this flash on my lappie yesterday, and kinda glad they did ^^ It's a really cool FF parody flash that some guy did for his/her high school Japanese project. Real good stuff! Even more so for a FF fan... Wonder if I shld recommend this to sensei to screen during class ^^ Such a pity that I *still* dunno how to do flash, or doing sth like this wld be just uber-awesome!!!

Final Fantasy A+

On another note, it seems that there are only 4 of us gg for the Japanese video conferencing thingie this afternoon. That makes me even scared-er and nervous...... Wich me luck!!

few more weeks to go....

Typing this outside SPS before I need to head over to lab and whack more tiles... Doesn't help that the *stupid* NUS-VPN for the LAN just refuses to connect (just installed it again after surviving on 1 year plus w/o the Cisco client)..... So back to wireless for me while I do some sort of update for the 2 weeks of absence...

Well, semester's coming to an end :( And I am REALLY behind time for my UROPS... *bleah* The only up-side of it is that making tiles (or at least violently throwing them on the floor in a bid to get them out of the mold) sure is a great way to de-stress... Until i get TOO frustrated with them NOT coming out... Aargh.... (Let me know if anybody wants to join me in venting their anger/frustrations/ etc on my tiles ^^) Another round of tile making on Thu tho'.... Plus I really need to see tha environmental science guy (early?) next week... Being a procrastinator AND a slowpoke really doesn't help at all....

On the other hand, the cladistic report dateline got extended til next wk, meaning Chee Peng and I can breathe a little easier, and do stuff on Thu and Fri instead of rushing everything out today.... Wanna go home earlier to (1) watch Extreme Japan, (2) finish microbio reports, and (3) get enough rest before tmr's full day that includes general physio lab and a fieldtrip to MacRitchie...

Japanese classes are gonna kill me pretty soon... din SU, so need to really buck up, man... last 2 lessons on 敬語, and I dun really get them... Plus, 先生 managed to get me to go for some video conferencing in Japanese on Friday (supposed to be for intermediate Japanese language pple... and LAJ2203 is STILL elementary... help!!) *sleepy* Need to get back to lecture prep for L49....

handphone woes....

Aargh!!! Why is it that HPs in Singapore don't last beyond the 2-year plan that they come with?!? Well, at least mine doesn't..... My nice Sony Ericsson just did what a cranky Windows machines does... Show me a BLUE screen of death.... But since it is still kinda functional, Abel was saying that it is possibly a software prob *grumbles* Meaning I need to make a visit to one of the THREE service centres ard in Singapore... Prob at the end of the week.... Thu or Sat I guess (anybody wanna come along w me?) Do the Japanese have such problems? Or do their warranties last for two years instead of the meagre one year here? There goes my watever I haf saved.... Was saving for iPod nano, as well as basic open water, but guess that wld haf to go into either my hp repair or the cost of a new one.... Esp since my hp model is old, as well as not very popular.... Meaning I prob only get $20 bucks for it if I am lucky... *growl*

At least today was not ALL gloom and doom... Microbio CA over (tho' I was kinda in a daze since my hp died-ed just before the CA, and now you know how reliant I am on my hp now...), and I got into the Hiroshima homestay ^^ Now, need to pursuit Daddy that the 1000-odd bucks spent wld be worth it... Need to reply by Thu (06 Oct) so that's quite a bit of fast talking I wld need to do... Esp since I end late on Tues and Wed, plus I haf Jap mid-term tmr *cries* I will survive........................

bleach 196

OMG~~~~ just read chp 196, and it rocks!!! hitsugaya, renji, matsumoto, ikkaku and yamicha on earth?!? and in ichigo's school?!? *lol* but at least there is the long awaited return of rukia ^^ and her drawings in 197 (yep, i saw some preview photos ^^) And so the fight continues on on earth... pretty amazing how kubo tite manages to come up w more and more twists and turns in the plot line to sustain interest in the series, tho' I honestly hope that it won't end up being an uber long one......

really must get to work on my urahara layout....

Adding to the FFVII mayhem.....

Remember how I was playing the PC ver of FFVII during the break? Well, I never finished it... stopped somewhere after the Weapons started appearing, then cldn't remember wat I was strategising, so un-installed the game.... Till the next break I guess..... Doesn't help the SQUARE is really milking the entire FFVII following for wat's it's worth. With the whole bunch of FFVII related games, as well as the occasional chara in other titles like Kingdom Hearts, not to mention HUGE fan servicing in the form of Advent Children (*drools*) and Last Order, Juan goes in search for walls and winamp skins.... Nothing like a little SQUARE to bring out the fangirl in me ^^ Guess I had better start saving for a PS3 as well as the PS3 release of FFVII... Any how, here are some quizzes from a fansite I sumbled across (ain't too difficult NOT to come across one since AC is like all the rage now.... Wanna live in Japan so I can buy the Panasonic P900iV)....

Kenshin - founded!!!

The case of the 11 missing Kenshin vol has been solved.... They were taken (w/o permission mind u!!) by my little sis.... Silly girl put back some of them yesterday, making it REAL obvious that either she or my bro was the one "borrowing" them, and my memory ain't that faulty after all ^^ Kinda glad that they haf been found, now can comcentrate better on sch stuff.. Silly sis got this BIG pep talk by mom (mainly) and a bit from me on how she shld at least let me know that she took them.... oh well.... and she was already getting a talking down from mom ab some crazy stunts that she was doing while both parents weren't ard (stuff like walking on the outer side of the stair railings, practically tempting fate to see if she wld fall and break her neck...)

Wasted enough of my lunch break on this post liao, better eat and get back to muggint general physio.... then off to evo lab and cladistics!! =^-^=

leaky memory

Was re-arranging some stuff on my bookshelf, and realised that the last 11 vol of my Kenshin manga are missing.... Dun recall taking them out recently (too busy to be able to read Kenshin all over again) Do hope they turn up soon... Can't believe that my memory is getting so bad that I can't even remember where I (mis)placed them... Plus it seems that this sem, the Jap dango and bunpou ONLY stays in my short term memory (aka only for like TA and TB) then I forget them all the week after.... Aargh... how am I to survive JLPT 3 at the rate I am gg?!?

Oh, and on another note, it seems that my blog works weirdly on Macs... the scroll function works find (tho' it doesn't seem to work on Windows), and the Jap charas dun appear no matter hom many times the encoding is changed... Only found out when I tried it on Ifty's laptop... The prob w the charas is prob because I am using the Windows in built IME, and iBooks may or may not have that particular equivalent....

Oh... and I still wanna sell off e first 4 vol of evangelion (chuangyi's chinese ed of course!) that I haf... any takers?

Why, oh why....

Silly Juan got sick over the weekend, and sick plus rainy weather is NOT good, mainly because it makes Juan super sleepy.... Been having prob waking up in the mornings since Sunday... *sigh* Tonnes of stuff to do, no time to do, plus sick.... it seems that I have a habit of falling sick ard the middle of sem (more of less w/o fail some more!!) Hopefully can squeeze out some time to do ver 2 of my blog layout.... Not too happy w this one.... Too much redundant code floating ard, and a little cluttered wrt pics... My present sources of entertainment are prob hanting's and boonkiat's blogs... the former because of his writing style, the latter because I get to read abt dive trips and wonder if I am gonna get *another* surprise when the layout changes again... (kiat, ur tag board is now gone, and I am still waiting to see ur rukia layout lei....)

On to Jap lecture...

touch of insanity...

I am SO NOT doing this again..... achy back.... Was too lazy to pack away my work and stuff last night (FYI, I do my work on my bed since my laptop takes up the only empty spot left on my desk...) So I technically "slept" curled up on like half the bed.... Plus as usu, it was hot, and I cldn't on the aircon since I am having a runny nose.... Feeling real sleep deprived now...

EDIT:
What is it w blogger these few weeks? Its seems that it is also possible to receive spam in the form of comments and not only email any more.... Aargh!!!! Frustrating it is indeed, and so much for wasting time deleting crap like that... Feeling tempted make a swap to LJ or blogdrive now...

paleontologist for an afternoon ^^

Yesterday's evo lab was so fun ^^ Never thot that I wld haf had the chance to play w fossil casts etc. But we managed to do so. Banzai!! Oh well... the usual stuff abt evolution and how humans and primates ultimately had a common ancestor etc, and we had to describe the common/differing characteristics of present day primates and humans, then based on those charas, arrange the fossil casts into wat we thot was the chronological order. Really fun, and we did run into some prob like how the "fossils" are not really complete, with broken bits here and there. In the end, my group got the mid-age ones wrong.... the initial ones and latter ones were alright tho ^^ Even more convince that changing to a bio conc is the right choice ^^ Wanted to put up some of the photos, but can figure out how to upload them (since the pics are all in ppt, and I dun wanna go thru the hassle of needing to photoshop them...) Need to do UROPS and Jap stuff now.... Ciao~

the road less travelled

This HAS got to be a record... 3 posts in a day!!! Dun think i haf ever done this but.... *deep breath* Here goes...

I used to think that I wld choose a less travelled path in the name of adventure, spontaneity, and to put it in a very Singaporean way, "garang-ness". How idealistic that sounds to me now.... basically, I'm not a terribly adventurous person, and neither am I a risk-taker. Oh no, in fact, I just love familiarity and making myself at home in my little cottony comfort zone, making me a loner of sorts. Don't ge tme wrong tho', I am by no means a social recluse or hermit, and I DO enjoy the company of friends & loved ones. Yet at the same time, I doubt I can truly confide in anybody (incl myself). Well, in terms of pooring out my woes and stuff, at the moment Mom is prob the closet person, God the closest being, & my diary (that includes portions of this blog) the closest thing...

So why wld I take the road less travelled? Not for adventure, not for discovery, but for the sweet solace that is so hard to come nowadays in the busy-ness of the world we live in. ちょっと寂しいし、つまらないし...でも、あたしはここにいることよかったね。この世界は忙しくなったり、にぎやかになったりするそうから、自分の空間 を持つたいん...今、本当にいる所はどこか、ちょっと分からない。 Amidst all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, there is just this yearning for my own niche, a personal space for me to retreat into, so that I can relax & un-wind. One can really get claustrophobic in this busy-ness of life.... 命の忙しさは怖いね!Call me an escapist or any other name you want but I relly love getting away from crowds & all (with the occasional human contact, of course! ^^)

And this "contemplation" and self-reflection began all thanks to the busride(s) home today... Trying to take 96 from arts at 1800h is near to utter madness. Crammed in like sardines in a can, pespiring in a non-aircon bus.... And to top it all off, a pretty bad jam when the bus hit Clementi *sigh* With like 6, 7 buses in a row, and the crazy jam, I WAS feeling pretty squished up and irritated, thus I joined like half of the NUS students on board when they got off 2 stops from the interchange. If I wasn't so irritated, I prob wld haf been thoroughly amused (ok, so I am now, on hindsight that is...) at the NUS "exodus" to the interchange/MRT station... Somehow, the bunch of us who got off earlier actually managed to beat the bus to the interchange... on foot too! ^^ Still, for that to take 40 min is just way too long... (えっ!40分もかかるんか!) Since the MRT wld haf been real crowded too, Juan here hopped onto yet another bus... And in between feeling irritated and stuff, "road less travelled" just came to mind.... Oh well, guess I shall just have dinner in sch on the days my lessons end at 6pm.... さあ、仕方がない...

the other side of the coin....

Just a quick post before I dash over to arts for Japanese class.... This morning's evo lecture on Darwinism and the problems of "natural theology" really has gotten me thinking. Been so set on creationism and how some of the classic textbook cases for evolution are not as sound as they seem, that it seems weird to haf the same thing done to the older form of creationism (aka natural theology) But then again, this would bring up the point on pple seeing wat they wanna see and how things that are not as well established are either ignored or some how "adapted" into the theory.... In a way, it IS refreshing to learn the pros and cons of both theories, and other than my personal belief in God and the Bible, it would appear that Darwin and evolution seems to be making more quantifiable sense..... Plus the way that Prof Meier does his lectures is more of teaching us ABOUT science rather than just what has been found etc. it really does make science more dynamic to me at least. In a way, it's like an evolution-focused interactive session of its own!! *lol* Reminding me of last night's lengthy discussion ^^ Haha... the perennial SPS question of "What is science?" all over again.... STILL haf yet to find a satisfactory answer since it was first given to us in Year 1.....

Oh wellz... Gotta scram.... Mata ne~

焼けた指

Feel like branded cattle at the moment... Managed to burn myself like 1 hour into today's microbio prac... Against the tripod stand some more.... Has definitely got to do w the 20-odd plates and 20-odd tubes that were on the bench for inoculation.... Ok lar, dun wanna make a mountain out of a molehill, tho' my left index finger looks a little weirdly colored at the moment... Thank goodness it was only a small burn. Managed to whack my finger against the tripod stand when flaming one of the inoculation tubes, so just ran water over it for a while. Finger was numb for a couple of minutes then started stinging, so turned to TA for help in getting some antiseptic or wateva... Got some antiseptic cream dumped on, and a plaster over it... 15 min later, still hurt (throbbingly), and one of the other lab techs came over to get details to fill in for the injuries record. More questions on on condition of finger while attempting (not very successfully) to label stuff while having restricted mobility of left hand, and this lab tech sez that he wld try get some aloe vera to soothe the abused finger.... Juan here thot he was referring to aloe vera cream, like the kind that u use on sun burns and stuff, but lo and behold, he appeared again w like 3 other lab techs in tow (prob wanting to see wat the "excitement" was abt) and a piece of aloe vera leaf!!! *gasp* U prob wld wonder why a microbio lab wld haf a piece of aloe leaf on hand just like that.... More instructions abt using the aloe (from YET another lab tech), and after struggling w a nice sticky, gooey mess of aloe and leaf on left hand, a plaster was slapped on, so that the inoculating frenzy cld carry on....

Seriously, I think I more-or-less singlehandedly provided the lab techs w their day's dose of amusement, esp knowing how monotonous microbio labs can get.... The were really nice and stuff but I do think they fussed over it a little too much. However, it is probably because of all that fussing that my finger feels absolutely fine now (seeing that I can type at my normal speed w no prob at all ^^) Doesn't look like it wld blister, just the weird purplish coloration and the flattened, slightly-wrinkled skin over the burned area. Just real glad that the burn was real minimal, as well as the prompt first aid... Guess I had better get to bed soon.... Do need a good nite's rest, esp after the long lab and LM immediately after. (Wonder if this post is actually coherent enough to make any sense)

夏祭り @ Changi

Crummy day it has been so far.... Plus I am actually typing this all out for the second time, all thanks to blogger dying out on me yesterday after I typed everything out nicely... Plus, it is raining (and the only thing I like abt rainy days is that it's so nice to sleep in...) and I cldn't find the Evo classroom... *bleah* This post is gonna take super long, since I am gonna "save as draft" every para or so, just in case blogger decides to be unfriendly again....

Anyways, on the proper posting abt the Japanese Summer Festival on Saturday ^^ Met up w Kemin to go dn to the Japanese Primary School @ Upper Changi Road. Pity the yukata rental service was over by the time we got our tix and coupons... And thus begins the photo-show ^^

This was the view that greeted us when we went past the ticketing counter.... So many pple, and many of them were in yukatas!!! Pretty amazing that a pri sch actually has it's own track and such a large space surrounding it as well! Anyhow, since Mingxian was there w some other friends, we decided to meet up w the bunch of them too ^^ So into the crowd we went....

Oh wellz, while heading over to the goldfish catching stall, the performance on the oh-not-so-center stage was drumming.... Really love the rhythmic sound ^^

So... onward to catch goldfishies!!! It was in front of this stall that we met up w Mingxian and his two friends, so now Kemin and I have 2 new friends too ^^ Ohe, notice how there were also SIA -print yukatas ard too!

Kemin and I may not haf been in yutakas, but Ngwei, Shumin and Mingxian were definitely in traditional Japanese garb! Really love the cute fans that they got.... Mine is an all out Asahi advert *sigh* And Asahi beer is actually wuite nice too ^^ heehee....

YANG GUO & XIAO LONG NU
Okies.... Decided to be nice and not blatantly post this photo up ^^ Click at ur own discretion.... heehee... But I definitely wanna give my friends a chance to look at the nice posing the two of them did ^^ After this was taken, they were dubbed as the above link sez Pls dun ask who is supposed to be who... That I ain't gonna tell...

Last but not least, a photo of the really cute kids in traditional garb ^^ Pple were taking turns w the bon-odori onstage, and when it was the kiddies' turn, it was like "awwww...." They really are cute, aren't they? Well, w most of the coupon stalls out of games and food, everyone was just congregating ard the stage in large circles and dancing to the dulcet sounds of japanese songs, as well as the more familiar strains of Chan Mali Chan and Rasa Sayang. Of course, we just had to join in as well ^^ What a way to end the evening!! Then it was off to the MRT and the long ride home (thank goodness Ngwei was also heading west ^^ or else the ride wld haf felt longer....)

badminton... and more CORS woes....

Just got back from playing badminton w Wai, Immanuel and his fren ^^ *lol* First time that I actually step foot inside the NUS badminton hall! Feels good playing *some* kind of sport after goodness knows how long of slacking.... Plus, I realise that I really suck! Nicely hot and humid inside the hall since neither the fans nor the air-con cld be switched one but it was still really enjoyable all the same ^^ Wai and I still haf a fieldtrip dn to Sungei Buloh at 2... Prob wld fall asleep on the bus *grin*

Stupid CORS is acting up *again* It sure din give me this much trouble in any of the previous semesters... Tutorial registration at the moment and I REALLY need to register for my Jap modules... Can only make it for very limited slots, and I wld be away on my fieldtrip later, and by the time we are gonna get back to NUS, the registration wld haf ended and the next round wld haf very limited number of tutorial slots *cries* In the mean time, I need to get lunch....

jap-ness!!!

Finally went for my first Jap lecture... Changed sensei, no more Chiba-sensei or Tomiko-sensei *sobz* Now it's Morita-sensei and Okada-sensei.... Oh well, need to get used to another set of teachers all over again. It was great seeing so many familiar faces again in Jap class ^^ However, one thing that really struck me was that the whole bunch of us were really pampered by Chiba-sensei's teaching style..... She really is a nice sensei, TOO nice in fact, so now we are all gonna haf to learn how to cope w a sudden increase in Jap workload....

Also got my 2nd Kino no Tabi visuak book today (courtesy of May Yi) Really happy ^^ Speaking of which, my Kino translations are *still* kinda stuck at the moment thanks to schoolwork and various other random stuff..... Managed to rope May Yi into this "mini-project" of mine, but both of us are still kinda busy, so nothing's gonna be up for a while... Okies, need to go home now, esp since I need to do some revision AND I do haf a fieldtrip tmr as well.... Minna-san, mata ne~~

boy! wat a day!!

first of all, whoppee!!! finally completed my blog layout yesterday ^^ *Juan pats herself on the back* prob won't change it for *quite*a while.... onward to a rant abt today....

Term has started, wat a bummer..... Hardly did anything for my UROPS *bleah* Today was super packed.... Been doing stuff non-stop since 10am, and sneaking in lunch and dinner in between activities.... Day started off w heading dn to the Strutural Engineering workshop to make some cement-rubble/coralline algae tiles w Jani and Wai. Really interesting how a simple eco proj can lead u to do stuff ranging from field work to lab work to using construction tools..... Wat other major or concentration can give u such ranging things to do? Kinda glad that I can take general physio this sem and make the swap to doing a pure bio concentration *beams* Dn side was that my left shoe has cement stains... Thanks gdness it's my old joggers *whew*

Next up was LM mtg while lunching on sandwiches.... *munch munch* Then off to microbio lab.... 4 hours of doing stuff that was covered either during Yr 01 or during JC days... Pretty gd for a quick re-cap to prep us for *more* streaking, staining and inoculation.... And after that, bought dinner and rushed off for a mtg a Dr K for [potential] junior mentors... And had dinner after finishing that... Phew... And now here I am updating my blog and chatting on MSN ^^ Gotta go home soon tho....

little joys in life

Well, term's starting real soon, getting busy w LM stuff, yet at the same time, missing the company of the UNSW students like Penny, Rachael and Jenny. But still, there are still little things to be thankful for, and made happy by...

<1> GHIBLI museum
Being the huge Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki Hayao fan that I am, I managed to get my hands on a video documentary-tour of the Ghibli museum situated 15 miles from Tokyo. ^^ 嬉しいね!Really enjoyed watching it.... Seems like I was transported into a real life Miyazaki world!! Miyazaki-sensei is such a spatial genius! He was involved in the designing of the museum, so the ENTIRE museum is like an exhibit by itself too.... Wonderful just seeing elements from Miyazaki's anime world being brought to life, it's just like 'Woh!' ^^ Miyazaki's fellow Studio Ghibli director, Takahata, describes his favorite parts of the museum for us, and it is pretty obvious that even HE is in awe of Miyazaki's ideas!

I really love finding out abt the influences behind my fave authors and shows ^^ so finding out abt how little hilltop towns in Italy have had a large influence on how Miyazaki creates the detailed worlds that his stories are set in.. Even more inclined to go Tokyo now!! Really wonder if I can get Miyazaki-sensei to design a hse for me as well ^^ Wld really love waking up into a Ghibli world every morning!!

<2> shopping for slippers
Kinda seriously need a new pair of slippers (or "thongs" as the Aussie students like to call them) Have already went out twice to see if I cld get a suitable pair for a decent price but.... Some how, I managed to end up buying things other than slippers *LOL* The first time, I ended up getting not one but THREE pairs of shoes from a closing down Bata shop (one Adidas, two Skechers) Oh well... No harm in trying again rite? So off Juan sets off to IMM in search of those elusive pair of slippers.... But lo and behold, Juan ends up getting a nice humongous Vertikal slingbag instead... The good thing is that I am actually able to dump my lappie in w a number of other things as well (plus I do like carrying slingbags more than bagpacks ^^) Anyone wanna help me in my search for a good pair of slippers? Really do want a pair of Teva's...

<3> Festival of Praise 2005
Hillsongs and Delirious? were here in Singapore for our annual FoP from 05-07 Aug. Went yesterday w Eda and Wing Yee. Some how, it semmed a lot more concert-ish compared to last year... Nevertheless, it was great to see so many Singaporeans and fellow Christians gathered there to worship and praise ^^ Wld haf liked it better if the music wasn't so loud, and I actually had time to hear myself think during the time of worship.... Still, the time spent in the Indoor Stadium was refreshing and encouraging ^^

Wat a morning!!!

Boy oh boy..... it's been such a crummy morning that the day can ONLY get better.... Somehow managed to beat the rain when I left home, but lo and behold, 198 had to have a break dn along the Jurong West stretch, so the whole busload of us were off loaded onto the bus stop.... By then, it was pouring not just cats and dogs, but elephants too!! Aargh... din help that the bus stop had a leaky roof.... So the next 198 came along, but since the broken dn one was still blocking the area just in front of the bus stop, it was like a quick dash in the downpour and into the bus.... Rain din let up went the bus got to NUS, but one wld have thot that the nice covered walkway wld be more than adequate to shelter pple over.... That was SO not the case... *bleah* Not w the strong wind blowing.... Ended up w my right arm all wet, and the right side of BOTH legs of my berms wet.... Wld be quite hilarious if I weren't cold... Oh well, at least I am in a dry place now ^^ Really shld start keeping a spare change of clothes in school, along w a towel.....

Okies, enough ranting and complains..... Time to GLOAT ^^ Just can't help it since I actually got Japanese 04 for ONE POINT!!!! Finally, I dun half to use a whole bunch of points to get Jap ^^ *does a little jig* Now I actually haf points to spare on other breadths that I am interested in ^^

NDP preview

Whoppee~ Back from NDP preview (with a real weird looking bag) ^^ the last one b4 the actual NDP... Was in the green section, so Adrian Pang and Vernatta Lopez were part of the pre-parade ra-ra crew for us... Boon happened to be in the yellow section just opp, and we were exchanging some SMSes ^^ Apparently Wesley and Zim were there too....

In between having my sis wave her flag (almost) into my face, I pretty much enjoyed myself ^^ There were cheesy moments like how Gurmit Singh *just* had to repeat that we're on TV and being satellite-telecasted to the heartlands when it was kinda obvious that the only pple at the heartlands were the poor motivators (aka cheerleaders) and the TCS hosts.... JE looked esp sad w just the yelow and blue pple there on a nice field with patches that were sorely lacking grass... When the motivators were teaching us the "dance steps" for this yr's theme song, it reminded me of the gd ol' sec sch days when we had weekly practices just to get our mass dances down pat...

Was kinda worried for the Red Lions were parachuting in, since it had been raining more or less the whole day, and the canvas covering the Padang looked real slippery. Good thing that nothing happened to anyone of them, and those cool stunts were executed nicely ^^ Plus I got really nice views since the wind kinda blew them more or less just above my section!!

The usual march-in of the armed forces plus uniformed groups etc. occurred, but some time during the National anthem, one of the officers bearing an armed forces color fainted..... Kinda a shock to see one of them just lying face down.... A stretcher was brought quickly and he was carried away, and another officer came to carry that unfortunate color... Do hope that that poor fella is OK now.... Good news was that the rest of the preview went on without any more noticeable "dramas".

One other thing that made this pretty memorable (other than the parade being back at the Padang after goodness knows how many years) is the whole bunch of tanks, amphibian tanks etc etc that were being paraded out for us one after another.... Kinda scary how the armed forces were basically [proudly] parading out [wat felt like] quite a bit of our arsenal.... We saw tanks, tansk, and more tanks, various aircrafts, some boats being towed.... Wat was missing were the larger naval vessels and submarines... For quite a few minutes, I felt like I was being transported into Sagara Sousuke's private fantasy!!! (minus all those Armed Slaves, of course!!) For those who dun understand wat I am talking abt, go watch the NDP after u haf watched Full Metal Panic or Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu or Full Metal Panic: the Secons Raid.... Boon's comments were "Wahlau. The only thing they didn't pull out was the parking ticket auntie lor" and that really just puts the whole thing in a nutshell....

Really love the fireworks!!! Wanna go and live in Japan so that I can just experience fireworks in Summer during their matsuris!!! So pretty!!! The less explosive ones w little swirly patterns were just so awesome ^^ Gonna dream of nice fireworks tonite ^^

p/s. the customs style scanning of bags did do sth good for me.... after I chucked the security check sticker (that was pasted on my bag) into one of the side pockets, I retrieved a pendant (that I am pretty sure I lost years ago) along w the sticker when I was clearing junk on the way home ^^

what wise quote fits you?

Going off for NDP preview this evening.... Hope the rain stops by then (it's been raining quite a bit since morning) Prob won't be taking any photos since I am just too lazy to lug a heavy camera (with spare batteries) over to the Padang... Well, b4 that, here's yet another quiz!!!

*************

Your wise quote is:
"Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months" by Oscar Wilde. You are a very sarcastic person with a sharp tongue. You may not be the one always talking, but your mind is nevertheless critizing. You tend to have a cynical view on life itself and be somewhat withdrawn with who you really are. Society now is in your eyes corrupted and you wonder how the world will survive. And people are in your mind very ignorant and blind to the reality.

Don't u just love gatherings? ^^

Okie... so I was back in Singapore since Friday nite... Just been too lazy to post.... Plus, I dunno where to start on wrt Tioman.... Din get many photos this time, since I was snorkeling.... Plus my back just started peeling a little yesterday... Well, on to the main entry ^^

=============================

Just got home from my P3 (I kid u not!!!) gathering at Breko, Holland V ^^ It was great fun seeing the whole bunch of us again, in spite of the fact that less than half the class was down, but well, it HAS been like 12 years..... There was me, Tingting, Jessica, Seok, Kiat, Mark, Huson, Lester, Linus, Hannah, Joses, Lucas, Immanuel (did I leave anybody out? guess I'll check again when Kiat or someone else actually uploads the photos to the yahoogroups, and I get to put the photo up too... heehee...) Pity Ms Gaw cldn't make it. Do hope that her gum muscles get better soon. It really is pretty amazing how we can keep on having gatherings, considering that my sec and jc classes dun seem to org (or want to org) gatherings.... And not matter how much time we all have spent away from each other, there is always some kind of bonds that we still feel, and are still abt to happily chat w each other w/o any weird awkward silences ^^ (I really love this bunch of pple!!) The more we chat, the more childhood memories surfaced, and all the silly things we did as kids kept surfacing.... Ah, how times fly.... Now, amongst us, we have budding doctors, lawyers, scientists etc.... *nostalgic feelings*

Contact Lens woes....

Went to get contact lenses so I can use them for my fieldtrips and stuff, and for snorkelling in Tioman... Got them this morning, and since I have astig, my vision is a little double image-y at the moment :( It took a whole hour for the co-op optician to teach me, and for me to *somewat* get the hang of pushing the lenses against my eyeball... Doesn't help that today has been a nice rainy morning so far... Cold.... Just feels weird having lenses against my eyes....

Thot I wld spend the rest of the day re-doing the really messy coding for my blog, aka changing it so that I can use a mapping script instead.... But blogger is NOT cooperating at all.... my template changes just don't register no matter how many times I re-publish... and then it suddenly works again... oh well...

Recent events....

Well, after chatting w some of my frens over the past few days, I kinda realised that quite a number of them read my blog w/o commenting or tagging... Pls do help me w my changing of the layout, k? Really need help here.... Actually, I would really love to add a photoblog section but having a little trouble finding a gd place to host it.... And I really need to figure out how I wanna do the code for mapping, so that the sidebar can be shortened..... Aargh!!! Feedback pple, feedback!!!

++++++

Well, for the time being, I wld be putting up *some* of my photos here in here, along w the main entries, so until I get a functional place to host a photo album...

This one is the group shot that we took when the UNSW pple were brought on a mini-day tour of Singapore abt a week after they arrived. The photo's kinda big, and won't fit nicely in my blog dimensions, so u kinda need to click on it to see the full size ^^

Interesting shot I managed to get while inside the Chinese temple we visited on the same day.... The nicely restored "old-ern" architecture of the temple in the foreground, the modern buildings setting the skyline in the background, and not to forget the ever-present coke vending machine!!! Really shows how far the Coca-cola has penetrated into our daily lives, even amidst the juxtaposition of old and new..... Well, yea, this is another thumbnail, so u gotta click on it for a proper view....

Well, after visiting Little India, a couple of the girls got some henna designs on their hands (and feet). Penny here is being a nice model ^^ We actually had to walk ard a bit to get them done a a reasonable price since the spot that we visited was, well, mainly catering for tourists....

Jenny and her newfound ninja friends gotten from Chinatown.... Cute, aren't they? Kinda cool how she was amusing herself (and me at least) during the bus ride ^^ No complains from my side!

++++++

Now, on to more recent photos... like the ones taken tonight!! ^^ There were 2 events on... The first being an informal photo taking session amg the SPSians w those who just graduated (it IS commencement week, ya know!), not many of them turned up but well...

Liling was in this nice Chinese-Malay hybrid attire, that just symbolises how she is a Chinese Malaysian. Pretty interesting attire, plus u dun usually get to see her in a skirt! *gasp* The photo is kinda crap tho'.... I disabled the flash in a bid to conserve battery power but.... Can't believe I am actually putting up a photo that shows me!!! Firstly, I usually like being BEHIND a camera and not in front of it, and secondly, when I put up a photo, I tend to go for group shots... Oh well...

The graduating bunch, all nicely lined-up together, w Qifeng just popping his head out and Huang Ming sticking his head out ^^ (Nope, I sure didn't photoshop them in!!)

Group shot of the seniors... Sure gonna miss having them ard!! *sobz*

Yea, the crazy bunch of us who actually stayed back to take photos together (well, minus some others who were helping w the phototaking... Thanks guys!) There's Miaoqing having some fun w Shruti's cap (",)

Nicely posing ^^ Really getting into the mood, aren't we? Pity I didn't manage to get a full length shot of Hugesh.... he was gg ard barefooted in like berms (under the gown), and when he first put on the gown we all kinda went "Jedi master!!" He really did look like one! Honestly!!

Anyway, the other event was a cultural presentation by those taking Bahasa Indonesia, and it was pretty nifty seeing them all dressed up in the various Indonesian costumes! Some presentations on the culture, food etc., a song-dance item, and a mini-angklung perfomance... Plus nice, spicy Indonesian food for dinner ^^

The angklung players... Well, not the best of photos since there were extra heads but I wanted to post this since Adi happened to be in it (he's the cameraman), and he just got his hair cut at Clementi this afternoon ^^ Hope u dun mind, dude! And yea, if u want a better view, u can click on it....

And here's the Indonesian class w some of the VIPs from NUS and UNSW just to wrap up this entry ^^ Yet another nicely bordered, clickable thumbnail.... And yea, remember to comment/tag or sth to help me w my blog!

spanky new layout

Yes, lazy ol' Juan finally got round to changing my blog layout... (such a hassle!) Partly 'cos Kiat just did his, and he found a nice one that I cld use ^^ The major prob I am facing now is that my blog looks wonderful in IE but a tad bit weird in Firefox, and I do like Firefox a whole lot more than IE.... *bleah* kinda need to get my links up again and stuff.... think I prob need to incorporate some javascript in, so that my sidebar isn't too long... (hope that won't further mess up the layout *sobz*) Well, yea, this is kinda to let u know wat's happening, so dun pls dun mind if my blog looks weird for a while.... Do hope I get things sorted out before we go off to Tioman!!

Adventure w RAMUNE (ラムネ) =^-^=

Yes, King Liang, it takes me 3 days to actually get this entry up.... Well, after bringing the UNSW ppl back to PGP on Sunday, Yew Mun, King Liang, Mun Keat, and I headed down to Raffles City... KL wanted to introduce me to ラムネ (pronounced as "ra-mu-ne") a pretty unique Japanese soft drink. Lunch at Subway, then the 4 of us trooped down to Market Place at the basement of Raffles City.... When we got to the Japanese produce section, I was getting pretty excited, especially since ラムネ turned out to be a drink I saw on either anime or J-drama before ^^ There were other flavors like orange and peach and stuff but only 3 of them were in the "authentic" glass bottle.... So the adventure begins after putting the drink in the fridge upon getting home ^^

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Okie.... I ended up buying the original flavored ラムネ (pretty much tasteless to me... prob because loads of Singaporean soft drinks are very sweet). [1] shows the unopened bottle. Kinda looks like a normal soft drink in a glass bottle but looks can be deceiving, ya know! So upon closer inspection, there are interesting labels like in [2] and [3] as to how to open the bottle.... Basically there is a little plastic t-shaped thingie that you use to unseal the bottle by pushing the glass marble dn ^^

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So ya, after removing the normal plastic seal thing at the top, the bottle ends up looking like [4], where the geen plastic bits at the top just sitting there, and come apart like in [5]. The smaller plastic bit on the left is the "t-shaped" thingie used to push the glass ball down...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Now comes the troublesome part..... the proper unsealing, so that I can get to my drink.... [6] shows how u shld place the plasatic bit, and u gotta use A LOT of strength to get the darn ball down!! I tried, didn't work.... Mom tried, didn't work... Went to get a flat pebble we had, I held on to the bottle, and Mom went "wham" on the pebble, and the glass ball *finally* went dn.... You can sorta see it fizzle-ling in [7]

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Just in case that wasn't large enough, here are some close-ups of the bubbles forming ard the ball... other than those little bubbles, there wasn't much excitement *lol* And yea, Juan (along w sibs and mom) proceeded to finish the 200mL of drink there was.... Not really a lot, but I only understood how THICK the walls of the bottle are after we finished the drink!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Well.... here's the emptied product... The bottle is contoured in such a way that the glass ball doesn't fall all the way down but instead stays some where in the middle.... Well, now Juan has a nice noisy, albeit heavy, rattle on my table ^^ One good thing that came out of this is that now I have something ready for Japanese 4 culture presentation (photos and bottle alike!! heehee... might even get another bottle just before the presentation so I can demo how to open it ^^)

Trip to the airport....

Juan really needs to remember that it takes near to 2 hours to get to the airport from home.... Nice LOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG train ride *sigh* To start the story from the beginning, a group of us from SPS are helping out with a Science Summer School Programme thing NUS has w UNSW, so some of (the group of) us were at the airport to greet them... We were supposed to meet at 1730h since their flight was to arrive at 1745 but silly me was an hour late. Thankfully none of them were out yet ^^ Oh well... Managed to get all 27 of them safely, and on to PGP we go.... Wei Wen JUST had to whip out his deck of cards to play bridge while we were on the bus ^^ Oh, apparently they have a similar game called "500" (?) back Down Under... Unfortunately, the 2 we were playing with weren't exactly sure of the rules for it...

Next "adventure" at PGP was with the cluster gates that were situated at each level... Spent a good 15 minutes trying to figure out how to actually open them (especially since I don't stay in a hall) *rofl* And then back down to the air-con canteen for a quick meeting and briefing for tmr, as well as the collection of their [rather nice] welcome pack.... There was also a short comment abt the pink guavas that are eaten in Australia and the whitish, "pear-ish" ones we eat in Singapore. Well, the commercial guava drinks (like the ones from Pokka) we get in Singapore are made from the pink guavas, and they are sweeter compared to the practically tasteless white ones.... Pink and white are referring to the flesh inside... All guava skins are green....

Anyway, there wld be some of us bringing them to Clementi to get hp Sim cards, EZlink cards and wateva else they need... Prob til lunch time I guess, since a number of them DO have exams on Monday.... The poor things had to fly over in the middle of their exams, so they are doing papers in between some of the modules for the next week or so... And one of her has a pretty bad cough but still needs to study for her paper on Monday... Do hope she can get enough rest tonight... I prob can only join them for lunch at Clementi after YM tho'

Well... 27 more names to learn and match to faces (doesn't help that there are 2 Emilys) Wld prob have fun with that, tho' I think they wld have more fun trying to remember our names since none of the 9 of us have English names ^^ with mine being a little of a tongue-twister (I mean, even my TEACHERS can pronounce it wrongly, and they are Singaporeans!!!), and I like to sign off us "Juan" which wld be synonomous to "euan" a GUY's name... (yea, most of my netpals think that I am a guy, at least until they realise that I am NOT) Been telling them to call me "Ju-en" or "Jen"...... Here's to fun times ahead, and to a good rest in bed!! 皆さん、おやすみなさい!!またね!!

Oh, as a side note, I managed to get tix for the NDP preview... Now to figure out where Far East Square is, so that I can go collect them... Plus need to know WHEN the preview is.... Only know that it is at the Padang (since this year's NDP wld be at the Padang)

After some shut eye....

Hmmm.... Managed to get *some* sleep after all, but I think I am NOT meant to last multiple nights in SPS.... So much for a full fledged marathon... Guess we wld just finish up by watching segments of the the features discs (as recommended by Ifty), then I can actually get back to my bed tonight! And then I can enjoy my extended vcds at a more leisurely pace ^^ AND I get a chance to actually pack my rm as well... Tho's I prob wld be back on Friday, to *hopefully* settle some UROPS and module stuff, especially since the UNSW students coming for the science summer school programme wld be arriving on Saturday, and the 10 of us wld be meeting them on Monday during the welcome tea =^-^= PLUS, there's the semestral cleaning of SPS rm on Monday as well.... *hefty yawn* Kinda a good thing that I wld be occupied with helping the summer programme, otherwise I *might* feel a tad bit lonely since Nam is gg back to HK tmr, and wld only be back a week later.... Guess I kinda need to start on Minna no Nihongo for Japanese 4 as well, dun wanna be forever getting a B for jap.... Which reminds me, there's still that humongous ambition of mine to translated some of the Kino no Tabi stories into english too... [Not to mention the vectoring and walling I am supposed to be finishing up.... No, I haven't forgotten abt the hikaru no go wall or the inuyasha vector....]

Yes, going home tonight seems more and more appealing with each passing moment *nods head* I definitely DON'T wanna shower in science again... at least not until the upgrading(s) are all done... the shower head was pretty old, and more of getting a jet of water than anything else, but I think the freakiest part was how the noise/sounds from the upgrading that was going on a few rooms away just carried.... Half the time I wasn't sure if the noise was from there or if one of the workers actually came in to use the toilet... Pretty nerve wrecking if you just had a couple hours of sleep somewhere far from your bed, more so due to severe myopia... But that was the nearest shower ard, so.... *shudder* What i wld give for a nice warm shower at the moment....

Present wallpaper: Nice dark wall of Vincent from Final Fantasy - Advent Children that I managed to get off MT ^^ Matches the black of my IBM thinkpad wonderfully! The CGI is done so nicely, but when is squaresoft gonna put us out of agony and release the DVD?!? The release date has already been pushed back a number of times....
Click for the rambling...

Sleepless in NUS....

Well, we started our own private LOTR extended DVD full marathon (meaning we are watching EVERYTHING on the DVDs) Managed to finish all of Fellowship in ard 12 hours, supposed to be catching some winks now.... but I can't seem to fall asleep O_o Crap!! Well, so since I have *kinda* nothing better to do, here I am updating my blog ^^ Still can't believe that I am in sch for something as trivial as being a LOTR geek!! *ROFL* Really wonder if I can survive thru another 20-24 hours of LOTR.... Haha... But the behind-the-scenes peeks and the great scenery really makes it all worthwhile, and just seeing Tolkien's Middle-Earth brought to life is just so nice! *sigh* Wanna retire to Rivendell, and live in Lothlorien...

Finally got down to watching some of the TeniPuri musicals that I got from May Yi, and I think they are really amusing! Dancing, singing and tennis just doesn't go.... Really comical seeing live-action ver of all the Seigaku dudes ^^ Really like how Kaidoh turned out tho'. Pity those I got from her are raws, so I can't make out everything they were singing... Anyway, gonna make another attempt to sleep.... Minna-san, oyasuminasai!

NUS High Camp - mission accomplished!!!

The second camp is now officially done ^^ Yay!! Compared to the P6s, the Sec 2s were much less energetic.... In other words, they didn't drain my "batteries" as badly ^^ Still, having a nice bath at the end of the day feels REAL good!!

[Juan dashes off for dinner at this point....]

Okies... Back from a nice dinner that included chili black pepper fish, and now on to more rambling abt the camp... heehee.... Guess u shld be able to tell that Juan has enough energy to be bouncing ard! Kinda glad that my team *finally* showed SOME enthusiasm at the eco-race of the last station. Tho' that may be partly due to Malcolm actually giving them a time to beat..... Well, since BOTH teams competing actually managed to beat the original best time of 18 min plus, all I can say is "Well done Orange!!" As the Orange mentors were saying, it truly is the "Return of the Jedi"! Great that Orange teams managed to get the best team for 3 stations, compared to the P6 camp where only one girl from Orange got a prize for the DuPont quiz..... It was a busy (and rather draining) week, and I definitely enjoy the rest of my hols ^^ (Just need to get off me bum and go do some active scouting for a UROPS prof....)

Guess the kids weren't the only ones who made new friends. I got to know more NUS pple too! I mean, I already know the SPS ones, but there were also a number of SPS-friends that were helping out. People like Aloysius were doubly great to know. (In his case, he's a nice fella, PLUS he's also a fellow ACSian!!)

Hmmmm..... On to other things.... Yea, CoolBlueX has done the updating at Oujisama.tk, so the anime episode summaries are slowly trudging along.... Gotta start watching those live musicals soon too...At least the TenuPuri stuff are making some headway, not like my Kino no Tabi translations... Translating REALLY is tougher than it looks :(

The AMC website has been moved to Leslie's SCCC hosting space, and well, things are still kinda messy at the moment while sections are being allocated to various pple... Grace and I are kinda the articles pple. I really wonder what I can write abt.... Plus whether my writing skills are really up-to-std.... I mean, other that blog entries (or diary style ramblings) or science-related reports, papers etc., I haven't really been doing anything similar to a proper article writing.... Oh dear, what to do abt this?

Dental appointment tmr... So NOT looking fwd to it..... Never really liked visiting either the doctor's nor the dentist's *hefty sigh*

Guess I owe u guys this......

Yea.... sorry for the "downtime" and the lack of posts... been a little busy, plus internet connection at home is more than a little wonky....

Got back my results a week ago. Good news is that everything is above a C+... the bad news is that there weren't any As either *hefty sigh* Oh well, that's the last sem (I hope!) that I would be taking 6 modules. Back to a normal load of 5 ^^ Aside from Japanese 4, Microbiology and UROPS, I am still short of 2 modules to take... Probably gonna be more LSM modules I guess...

So what has Juan been busy with? No, not with FF7... If I was busy with that, you guys would definitely read more about escapades of how to catch the *stupid* chocobo etc.... Been helping out in the NUS High School camp (that's for this week) and one thing that I have DEFINITELY learnt from this is that Juan is NOT cut out to be a primary school teacher or work in a childcare centre... Batteries don't last long enough... Will be over after this week. Whoppee!! Then I have ard a week free before I need to help with the NUS summer exchange programme for the UNSW pple... Yes, that gives me ard one week to settle my UROPS project.... Guess I hafta select from the list of Bio Sciences projects...

Okie... wanna wrap this up so I can get back to fiddling ard with MSN messenger 7.0... Ciao for now....

Final Fantasy VII

Sorry for the lack of entries recently ^^ Have been having WAY too much fun watching TeniPuri and playing computer games ^^ BTW, the anime summaries on oujisama.tk shld get updated once i manage to pass them to CoolBlueX for UL... One fun game that DEFINITELY deserves a try is Paradoxion, even more so if u like puzzles *nods head* You can get the trial version HERE.

Well, on to another game that has taken me ages to get down to playing... FF7 for the PC ^^ (Yes, juan is slow, but what to do when juan doesn't have a PS2 or much time during the hols?) Really happy that DT could lend me her FF7 (and FF8) games to play!! Heehee.... It DID take me a while to figure out how to use the mousepad on my IBM lappie, plus even more time before I actually got used to what key controlled what... But after that, it's pretty fun ^^ This is SO gonna take up more of my time... there goes the thots of practising Japanese and walling... Oops..... Oh well, it IS the hols, and I kinda want some FF to play while waiting for SquareSoft to actually release the much awaited FF 7: Advent Children DVD ^^ The game would do for now (tho' the graphics aren't quite like the present FF CGs, they are pretty cute) Would probably spend the most of tmr playing FF7, at least til I get stuck at one stage or another.... Tata for now!

Okies.. Upcoming ACJC event... Wld all ACSians reading this blog pls take note? Thanks!! ^^

What? Passion AC
Where? ACJC Auditorium
When? !st July 2005 (Fri), 7.30pm

Hope to see familiars faces there!!
=================================================

Okie... On to the proper blog entry ^^ I JUST had to put the details up here after getting informed of this! Anyway, silly me just realised that I can actually browse to the original Shonen JUMP mag in Kinokuniya, so I dun really need to depend on fansites to provide low quality photoscans of the latest chapters of stuff like Bleach and Tenipuri!! Down side is that I need to travel down to town, and black fingers due to the newspaper quality toner used in the printing process.... But oh well... Managed to get the VCD of Umizaru *bounces in joy* Now I get to watch it over and over again!! Heehee....

Back after 10 min... Just back from watching the part of the last episode of a chinese variety show, and seeing Mark Lee trying to learn Japanese is simply hilarious!! His intonation is all wrong... Normally the show wld get various celebrities to teach foreigners some chinese, but since this is the last episode, the 2 hosts are required to learn THREE languages (or at least SOME of it), namely Japanese, Thai and Malay ^^ Wanna go watch Bleach 32 now, so また ね!

INT: BESPIN GANTRY - MOMENTS LATER:

A furious lightsaber duel is underway. DARTH VADER is backing LUKE SKYWALKER towards the end of the gantry. A quick move by Vader, chops off Luke’s hand! It goes spinning off into the ventilation shaft. Luke backs away. He looks around, but realizes there’s nowhere to go but straight down.

Darth Vader: Obi Wan never told you what happened to your father.

Luke Skywalker: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!

DV: No… I am your father!

LS: No, it’s not true! It’s impossible.

DV: Search your feelings… you know it to be true…

LS: NO!

DV: Yes, it is true… and you know what else? You know that brass droid of yours?

LS: Threepio?

DV: Yes… Threepio… I built him… when I was 7 years old…

LS: No…

DV: Seven years old? And what have you done? Look at yourself, no hand, no job, and couldn’t even levitate your own ship out of the swamp…

LS: I destroyed your precious Death Star!

DV: When you were 20! When I was 10, I single-handedly destroyed a Trade Federation Droid Control ship!

LS: Well, it’s not my fault…

DV: Oh, here we go… “Poor me… my father never gave me what I wanted for my birthday… boo hoo, my daddy’s the Dark Lord of the Sith… waahhh wahhh!”

LS: Shut up…

DV: You’re a slacker! By the time I was your age, I had exterminated the Jedi knights!

LS: I used to race my T-16 through Beggar’s Canyon.

DV: Oh, for the love of the Emperor… 10 years old, winner of the Boonta Eve Open… Only human to ever fly a Pod Racer… right here, baby!

{Luke looks down the shaft. Takes a step towards it.}

DV: I was wrong… You’re not my kid… I don’t know whose you are, but you sure ain’t mine…

{Luke takes a step off the platform, hesitates, then plunges down the shaft.}

{Darth Vader looks after him.}

DV: Get a haircut!

Building comp...

Woh~ First time I am helping out in building a comp more or less from scratch ^^ Actually it's one of my frens who is doing it... I am just tagging along, and since it is in a common area, and I am to help with troubleshooting as and when probs crop up... the poor comp is kinda "naked" at the moment with all its components spilt all over the table, plus there is NO power "ON" button!! We turn it on with the mystical power of the FORCE ^^ (FYI, we are Jedi padawans too! heehee...) It is quite fun, and I may wanna build my own desktop at home as well. But that means that I REALLY need to clear up more space on my desk.... ladidadida...

Whew....

After 7.30pm today, my exams would be over ^^ Banzai!! Well, that just leaves me with 2 ISM papers to do by sat... kinda had a breather over the weekend, and that helps ^^ (in spite of the fact that most of my frens seemed to have ended their exams by last wk) Big relieve that my paper are *finally* gonna be over, tho I prob wld have quite a few sleepless nites trying to get out 2 review papers in 4-5 days...

Holidays wld soon be here, meaning time to do walling and vectors, plus time to look for UROPS prof... (oh... plus the neverending task of packing me room!) Started watching the TeniPuri anime, and decided to make episode summaries as I go along. These would be up on Oujisama.tk once CoolBlueX has proofread them for accuracy and degree of spoiler-ness... Prob would do the same for the musicals once I get round to watching them ^^ It has been sometime since I have done any summary writing for either a book or show, do hope those are fine... Kinda makes me feel like a reporter, the way I type them out while watching the anime...

Yep... feels kinda good having an update here after so long ^^ Just need to finish these two review papers... Hang in there Juan!!

Spent the past 2 days spamming BleachPortal.net since the KAA forums seem to have disappeared at the moment, and since i dun use IRC, can't check to find out wat happened... Anyway, I found not 1, not 2 but THREE other fellow singaporeans who are pretty active there too!! 2 of them turn out to live rather close by, and another is my JC junior too!! And I thot Singapore was small.... Guess the online world is even smaller ^^ Heehee... 2 other guys on BP also found out that they are in the small grade in the same school (but unfortunately are in diff classes)

Have also started updating the blog w link buttons instead of the boring text.... But not all of the sites provide buttons to link back, so I guess I gotta make some myself (after the exams)....

Stress Relievers....

Kind person
Your wise quote is: "Be kind to unkind people,
they probably need it the most" by
Ashleigh Brilliant.
You try to look beyond apperance, try to give
people second chances and are probably very
kind. Understanding is your biggest personality
trait, and thoose you can see through should be
grateful. If they aren't already. You detest
narrow minded people, because they can't see
what's really there. Facades is not your thing
and you strive to always be who you really are.

belle
You are the classic southern belle. You are kind,
proper, responsible, and very adult like. You
attend church every Sunday and you have grace,
poise, and are very dainty. You are mature
beyond your years and prefer gentlemen of well
kept families for your marrying. But don't be
afraid to break loose from your corset strings
once and awhile and just have some fun. You're
only a kid once.

Ants... Antz... And more ants?!?

Spent today in Prof Meier's lab w my eco group attempting to ID the ants we collected from all over NUS... Not much success but at least we now have a list of characteristics to go by when we look at the identification key(s) ^^

Well.... in relation to that, JQ and mom found some insects in the 3rd level bathroom... Their heads kinda look like wat I had been looking at all day, but the body division was quite different from that of an ant.... Nice str antennae, nice big humongous butt, and not as distinct thorax and abdomen regions... Mom got worried about them being TERMITES... Juan goes online to search for termite identification guides, and comes across this site that has a nice large picture of the termite royal couple. The adult male termite on the left looks EXACTLY like the 10 plus insects that we managed to catch (and half squish at the same time), so... Plus, the same site states that termites have relatively straight antennae and thicker waists as compared to ants that have bent (elbow-like) antennae and narrow waists.... Uh oh... Another site says something abt their swarming period being from early Mar til May (tho' since it is a US site, I have no idea if the same can be said of Singapore) Since Juan is NOT an entomologist (neither is she aspiring to be one), she doesn't know wat to make out of this whole thing... Oh well.... Really hope that this is not some termite infestation (an infestation w a whole bunch of NOT worker or soldiers but MALE termites?!?) but just a bunch of stray (and lost!) males....

Culture Presentation.... Comparison of Children Festivals in Japan & Singapore

iTunes....

Juan has finally gotten down to trying out iTunes ^^ The party shuffle option is perfect for me!! Beats selecting folders and songs in winamp then enabling the "shuffle" fn.... iTunes does the shuffling for me, and even includes the number of times I play each song, plus their ratings too!! Really shld have tried it out sooner.... Though iTunes doesn't have the flexibility of changing skins and stuff, nor the transparency selector that FooBar has.... Still, need to go figure out how I wanna org my playlists there... Plus it is really useful it I ever get an iPod ^^

To those who are interested to go try iTunes (it's free, ya noe) out too, the link is provided below....

What color are you?

Take the quiz: "What color are you?"

White
Your color is white.... The purest of all, you live to serve, and make others happy... You never anger, always understand, and always do what is right... You are almost angelic... You are trustworthy and friendly....

====================================================
Yea.... Juan is having fun doing silly quizzes again (How on earth is that color above white?!? Ain't it more like OFF-white?!?) It's a great way to de-stress ya know!!

Anyway, it seems that Juan keeps on finding more and more friends with blogs, and the sidebar keeps getting longer and longer.... Oh well... Think that calls for a massive organising of the blog pretty soon (ok, maybe NOT so soon but after the exams... during the hols... Juan seems to keep on saying this, doesn't she?)

Ranting Time!!!!

くそ。。。2.5 weeks left of lessons... reading week then it's the exams.... Aargh!! Feel so messed up....

1) Marine eco report dued this friday, and I STILL dunno how to go about doing it. Hopefully discussing it with Nalini and Desmond later would shed some light.... Plus there is still the 2nd part of the stream eco to do in the lab, with the report dued who-knows-when! And the data is with Martyn (I think)
2) Have culture presentation for TC nxt week, draft dued on Mon...
3) GEM2900 project dued nxt Thu, need to type out my part and email to the rest of the group
4) Body temp regulation assignment dued sometime nxt week...
5) Eco proj... Prob need to do it this wkend (do hope that Leonard can get hold of his car)... The report is like dued just before reading wk (I think) Plus there is still the counting and identification of the ants....
6) Worst news I just got is that that the dued dates for my ISM papers and presentations got moved fwd by nearly a week. This means that I have like ard a week to get them done once my exams end.... Slightly less than a week to get not 1 but 2 pseudo-71 papers out... So much for relaxing for a day before "pia-ing" again...
7) Plus there is the thing abt starting revision (and preparations of help sheets) early....

Stupid me pressed the backward button on lappie just now, so I had to re-type in like most of this entry all over again... Feel like such an idiot... The slightly better side of things is that Air has sorta ended and Tactics shld end by nxt week (and froth-bite is lagging on their releases), so I have much less anime to keep an eye out for... LOL, Tsubasa is gonna start airing real soon tho' but think I shld have enough "holding area" on my lappie for them til after the exams.... So much for Rachel's observation that I look pretty relax... Guess my daily face is just to expressionless most of the time, plus I do try NOT to think too much abt all of this.... Just had to let all of that out... Feel much better now ^^

*hefty sigh* seems like I may not be able to go for Gen12ii after all.... Dad just doesn't approves... He believes that I am getting "conned" 0_o Anyway, seems like he called Victor (somehow, I REALLY dunno) and Dad wasn't too happy that there were "girls giggling non-stop" in the background while he was trying to talk seriously to Victor....

最近。。。

Thanks to Kemin and drama CDs (radio-play like audio CDs), I have started taking interest in 声優 (seiyuu: voice actors) 3 of them that I am starting to take notice (and some of their roles) are:
(1) 鈴村健一 (Suzumura Kenichi) He seems to be a pretty new seiyuu but REALLY like his voice!
- Rakushun (Juuni Kokuki)
- Night (Zettai Kareshi)
(2) 桜井孝広 (Sakurai Katahiro) Pretty popular male seiyuu, and the recent drama CDs of Watase Yuu seem to have him as the seiyuu for one of the male leads!!
- Haruka (tactics)
- Adult Loki (Matantei Loki Ragnarok)
- Rimudo (FYGenbu Kaiden)
- Soushi (Zettai Kareshi)
(3) 雪野五月 (Yukino Satsuki) A pretty popular female seiyuu... Kemin gets excited when she finds out who she has voiced ^^
- Kagome (Inuyasha)
- Takiko (FY Genbu Kaiden)
Honestly, Kemin can probably give more details. I am a real noob when it comes to seiyuu.... Having fun recognising voices tho' But I really don't have the time to read up more on them *sigh* Oh well, drama CDs ARE a great way to practise for listening compre!!

とにかく、the next 2 weeks are gonna be super busy 3 CAs next week (Wed: LSM3251, Thu: ST2238, Fri: LAJ2202) Followed by Pulau Tioman trip from Friday to Sunday. What is it with that weekend?!? I have 2 other things I need to go for on 12 Mar!!! P3 class reunion.... Haven't seen some of them in a REALLY long while.... There's also a Gen12ii mass training too, plus Maureen Onions is our guest speaker on that day too!! And there's PCG too.... ALL on 12 March...

*deep breathe* Shall stop whining.... Can't make multiple mes, so.... Would be back in Singapore on Sunday, and then from Monday to Wednesday, need to help out with the SRP congress. Missing 3 days of lectures... Hmmm... Plus there's the LSM3212 CA on 16 March, as well as the ISM and GEM projects to do!!!! (Not forgetting Gen12ii team trainings....) So, blog updates for the next few weeks would be rather massive ones (if I even bother to update that is!)

I used to have no time to do the things I want to but now I barely have time to do the things I need to do... Busy busy busy! Wallpaper and vector in the state of indefinite hiatus... Both kinda half-done at the moment... Need to await the hols *again*

Side note: Why are my blog entries getting longer & longer? *scratch head*
