Adventure w RAMUNE (ラムネ) =^-^=

Okie.... I ended up buying the original flavored ラムネ (pretty much tasteless to me... prob because loads of Singaporean soft drinks are very sweet). [1] shows the unopened bottle. Kinda looks like a normal soft drink in a glass bottle but looks can be deceiving, ya know! So upon closer inspection, there are interesting labels like in [2] and [3] as to how to open the bottle.... Basically there is a little plastic t-shaped thingie that you use to unseal the bottle by pushing the glass marble dn ^^

So ya, after removing the normal plastic seal thing at the top, the bottle ends up looking like [4], where the geen plastic bits at the top just sitting there, and come apart like in [5]. The smaller plastic bit on the left is the "t-shaped" thingie used to push the glass ball down...

Now comes the troublesome part..... the proper unsealing, so that I can get to my drink.... [6] shows how u shld place the plasatic bit, and u gotta use A LOT of strength to get the darn ball down!! I tried, didn't work.... Mom tried, didn't work... Went to get a flat pebble we had, I held on to the bottle, and Mom went "wham" on the pebble, and the glass ball *finally* went dn.... You can sorta see it fizzle-ling in [7]

Just in case that wasn't large enough, here are some close-ups of the bubbles forming ard the ball... other than those little bubbles, there wasn't much excitement *lol* And yea, Juan (along w sibs and mom) proceeded to finish the 200mL of drink there was.... Not really a lot, but I only understood how THICK the walls of the bottle are after we finished the drink!!

Well.... here's the emptied product... The bottle is contoured in such a way that the glass ball doesn't fall all the way down but instead stays some where in the middle.... Well, now Juan has a nice noisy, albeit heavy, rattle on my table ^^ One good thing that came out of this is that now I have something ready for Japanese 4 culture presentation (photos and bottle alike!! heehee... might even get another bottle just before the presentation so I can demo how to open it ^^)

Trip to the airport....
Next "adventure" at PGP was with the cluster gates that were situated at each level... Spent a good 15 minutes trying to figure out how to actually open them (especially since I don't stay in a hall) *rofl* And then back down to the air-con canteen for a quick meeting and briefing for tmr, as well as the collection of their [rather nice] welcome pack.... There was also a short comment abt the pink guavas that are eaten in Australia and the whitish, "pear-ish" ones we eat in Singapore. Well, the commercial guava drinks (like the ones from Pokka) we get in Singapore are made from the pink guavas, and they are sweeter compared to the practically tasteless white ones.... Pink and white are referring to the flesh inside... All guava skins are green....
Anyway, there wld be some of us bringing them to Clementi to get hp Sim cards, EZlink cards and wateva else they need... Prob til lunch time I guess, since a number of them DO have exams on Monday.... The poor things had to fly over in the middle of their exams, so they are doing papers in between some of the modules for the next week or so... And one of her has a pretty bad cough but still needs to study for her paper on Monday... Do hope she can get enough rest tonight... I prob can only join them for lunch at Clementi after YM tho'
Well... 27 more names to learn and match to faces (doesn't help that there are 2 Emilys) Wld prob have fun with that, tho' I think they wld have more fun trying to remember our names since none of the 9 of us have English names ^^ with mine being a little of a tongue-twister (I mean, even my TEACHERS can pronounce it wrongly, and they are Singaporeans!!!), and I like to sign off us "Juan" which wld be synonomous to "euan" a GUY's name... (yea, most of my netpals think that I am a guy, at least until they realise that I am NOT) Been telling them to call me "Ju-en" or "Jen"...... Here's to fun times ahead, and to a good rest in bed!! 皆さん、おやすみなさい!!またね!!
Oh, as a side note, I managed to get tix for the NDP preview... Now to figure out where Far East Square is, so that I can go collect them... Plus need to know WHEN the preview is.... Only know that it is at the Padang (since this year's NDP wld be at the Padang)

After some shut eye....
Yes, going home tonight seems more and more appealing with each passing moment *nods head* I definitely DON'T wanna shower in science again... at least not until the upgrading(s) are all done... the shower head was pretty old, and more of getting a jet of water than anything else, but I think the freakiest part was how the noise/sounds from the upgrading that was going on a few rooms away just carried.... Half the time I wasn't sure if the noise was from there or if one of the workers actually came in to use the toilet... Pretty nerve wrecking if you just had a couple hours of sleep somewhere far from your bed, more so due to severe myopia... But that was the nearest shower ard, so.... *shudder* What i wld give for a nice warm shower at the moment....
Present wallpaper: Nice dark wall of Vincent from Final Fantasy - Advent Children that I managed to get off MT ^^ Matches the black of my IBM thinkpad wonderfully! The CGI is done so nicely, but when is squaresoft gonna put us out of agony and release the DVD?!? The release date has already been pushed back a number of times....

Sleepless in NUS....
Finally got down to watching some of the TeniPuri musicals that I got from May Yi, and I think they are really amusing! Dancing, singing and tennis just doesn't go.... Really comical seeing live-action ver of all the Seigaku dudes ^^ Really like how Kaidoh turned out tho'. Pity those I got from her are raws, so I can't make out everything they were singing... Anyway, gonna make another attempt to sleep.... Minna-san, oyasuminasai!

NUS High Camp - mission accomplished!!!
Okies... Back from a nice dinner that included chili black pepper fish, and now on to more rambling abt the camp... heehee.... Guess u shld be able to tell that Juan has enough energy to be bouncing ard! Kinda glad that my team *finally* showed SOME enthusiasm at the eco-race of the last station. Tho' that may be partly due to Malcolm actually giving them a time to beat..... Well, since BOTH teams competing actually managed to beat the original best time of 18 min plus, all I can say is "Well done Orange!!" As the Orange mentors were saying, it truly is the "Return of the Jedi"! Great that Orange teams managed to get the best team for 3 stations, compared to the P6 camp where only one girl from Orange got a prize for the DuPont quiz..... It was a busy (and rather draining) week, and I definitely enjoy the rest of my hols ^^ (Just need to get off me bum and go do some active scouting for a UROPS prof....)
Guess the kids weren't the only ones who made new friends. I got to know more NUS pple too! I mean, I already know the SPS ones, but there were also a number of SPS-friends that were helping out. People like Aloysius were doubly great to know. (In his case, he's a nice fella, PLUS he's also a fellow ACSian!!)
Hmmmm..... On to other things.... Yea, CoolBlueX has done the updating at Oujisama.tk, so the anime episode summaries are slowly trudging along.... Gotta start watching those live musicals soon too...At least the TenuPuri stuff are making some headway, not like my Kino no Tabi translations... Translating REALLY is tougher than it looks :(
The AMC website has been moved to Leslie's SCCC hosting space, and well, things are still kinda messy at the moment while sections are being allocated to various pple... Grace and I are kinda the articles pple. I really wonder what I can write abt.... Plus whether my writing skills are really up-to-std.... I mean, other that blog entries (or diary style ramblings) or science-related reports, papers etc., I haven't really been doing anything similar to a proper article writing.... Oh dear, what to do abt this?
Dental appointment tmr... So NOT looking fwd to it..... Never really liked visiting either the doctor's nor the dentist's *hefty sigh*

Guess I owe u guys this......
Got back my results a week ago. Good news is that everything is above a C+... the bad news is that there weren't any As either *hefty sigh* Oh well, that's the last sem (I hope!) that I would be taking 6 modules. Back to a normal load of 5 ^^ Aside from Japanese 4, Microbiology and UROPS, I am still short of 2 modules to take... Probably gonna be more LSM modules I guess...
So what has Juan been busy with? No, not with FF7... If I was busy with that, you guys would definitely read more about escapades of how to catch the *stupid* chocobo etc.... Been helping out in the NUS High School camp (that's for this week) and one thing that I have DEFINITELY learnt from this is that Juan is NOT cut out to be a primary school teacher or work in a childcare centre... Batteries don't last long enough... Will be over after this week. Whoppee!! Then I have ard a week free before I need to help with the NUS summer exchange programme for the UNSW pple... Yes, that gives me ard one week to settle my UROPS project.... Guess I hafta select from the list of Bio Sciences projects...
Okie... wanna wrap this up so I can get back to fiddling ard with MSN messenger 7.0... Ciao for now....

Final Fantasy VII
Well, on to another game that has taken me ages to get down to playing... FF7 for the PC ^^ (Yes, juan is slow, but what to do when juan doesn't have a PS2 or much time during the hols?) Really happy that DT could lend me her FF7 (and FF8) games to play!! Heehee.... It DID take me a while to figure out how to use the mousepad on my IBM lappie, plus even more time before I actually got used to what key controlled what... But after that, it's pretty fun ^^ This is SO gonna take up more of my time... there goes the thots of practising Japanese and walling... Oops..... Oh well, it IS the hols, and I kinda want some FF to play while waiting for SquareSoft to actually release the much awaited FF 7: Advent Children DVD ^^ The game would do for now (tho' the graphics aren't quite like the present FF CGs, they are pretty cute) Would probably spend the most of tmr playing FF7, at least til I get stuck at one stage or another.... Tata for now!

What? Passion AC
Where? ACJC Auditorium
When? !st July 2005 (Fri), 7.30pm
Hope to see familiars faces there!!
=================================================
Okie... On to the proper blog entry ^^ I JUST had to put the details up here after getting informed of this! Anyway, silly me just realised that I can actually browse to the original Shonen JUMP mag in Kinokuniya, so I dun really need to depend on fansites to provide low quality photoscans of the latest chapters of stuff like Bleach and Tenipuri!! Down side is that I need to travel down to town, and black fingers due to the newspaper quality toner used in the printing process.... But oh well... Managed to get the VCD of Umizaru *bounces in joy* Now I get to watch it over and over again!! Heehee....
Back after 10 min... Just back from watching the part of the last episode of a chinese variety show, and seeing Mark Lee trying to learn Japanese is simply hilarious!! His intonation is all wrong... Normally the show wld get various celebrities to teach foreigners some chinese, but since this is the last episode, the 2 hosts are required to learn THREE languages (or at least SOME of it), namely Japanese, Thai and Malay ^^ Wanna go watch Bleach 32 now, so また ね!

INT: BESPIN GANTRY - MOMENTS LATER:
A furious lightsaber duel is underway. DARTH VADER is backing LUKE SKYWALKER towards the end of the gantry. A quick move by Vader, chops off Luke’s hand! It goes spinning off into the ventilation shaft. Luke backs away. He looks around, but realizes there’s nowhere to go but straight down.
Darth Vader: Obi Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Luke Skywalker: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
DV: No… I am your father!
LS: No, it’s not true! It’s impossible.
DV: Search your feelings… you know it to be true…
LS: NO!
DV: Yes, it is true… and you know what else? You know that brass droid of yours?
LS: Threepio?
DV: Yes… Threepio… I built him… when I was 7 years old…
LS: No…
DV: Seven years old? And what have you done? Look at yourself, no hand, no job, and couldn’t even levitate your own ship out of the swamp…
LS: I destroyed your precious Death Star!
DV: When you were 20! When I was 10, I single-handedly destroyed a Trade Federation Droid Control ship!
LS: Well, it’s not my fault…
DV: Oh, here we go… “Poor me… my father never gave me what I wanted for my birthday… boo hoo, my daddy’s the Dark Lord of the Sith… waahhh wahhh!”
LS: Shut up…
DV: You’re a slacker! By the time I was your age, I had exterminated the Jedi knights!
LS: I used to race my T-16 through Beggar’s Canyon.
DV: Oh, for the love of the Emperor… 10 years old, winner of the Boonta Eve Open… Only human to ever fly a Pod Racer… right here, baby!
{Luke looks down the shaft. Takes a step towards it.}
DV: I was wrong… You’re not my kid… I don’t know whose you are, but you sure ain’t mine…
{Luke takes a step off the platform, hesitates, then plunges down the shaft.}
{Darth Vader looks after him.}

Whew....
Holidays wld soon be here, meaning time to do walling and vectors, plus time to look for UROPS prof... (oh... plus the neverending task of packing me room!) Started watching the TeniPuri anime, and decided to make episode summaries as I go along. These would be up on Oujisama.tk once CoolBlueX has proofread them for accuracy and degree of spoiler-ness... Prob would do the same for the musicals once I get round to watching them ^^ It has been sometime since I have done any summary writing for either a book or show, do hope those are fine... Kinda makes me feel like a reporter, the way I type them out while watching the anime...
Yep... feels kinda good having an update here after so long ^^ Just need to finish these two review papers... Hang in there Juan!!

Spent the past 2 days spamming BleachPortal.net since the KAA forums seem to have disappeared at the moment, and since i dun use IRC, can't check to find out wat happened... Anyway, I found not 1, not 2 but THREE other fellow singaporeans who are pretty active there too!! 2 of them turn out to live rather close by, and another is my JC junior too!! And I thot Singapore was small.... Guess the online world is even smaller ^^ Heehee... 2 other guys on BP also found out that they are in the small grade in the same school (but unfortunately are in diff classes)
Have also started updating the blog w link buttons instead of the boring text.... But not all of the sites provide buttons to link back, so I guess I gotta make some myself (after the exams)....

Stress Relievers....
Your wise quote is: "Be kind to unkind people,
they probably need it the most" by
Ashleigh Brilliant.
You try to look beyond apperance, try to give
people second chances and are probably very
kind. Understanding is your biggest personality
trait, and thoose you can see through should be
grateful. If they aren't already. You detest
narrow minded people, because they can't see
what's really there. Facades is not your thing
and you strive to always be who you really are.
What wise quote fits you?(pics) UPDATED

========================================================

You are the classic southern belle. You are kind,
proper, responsible, and very adult like. You
attend church every Sunday and you have grace,
poise, and are very dainty. You are mature
beyond your years and prefer gentlemen of well
kept families for your marrying. But don't be
afraid to break loose from your corset strings
once and awhile and just have some fun. You're
only a kid once.

Ants... Antz... And more ants?!?
Well.... in relation to that, JQ and mom found some insects in the 3rd level bathroom... Their heads kinda look like wat I had been looking at all day, but the body division was quite different from that of an ant.... Nice str antennae, nice big humongous butt, and not as distinct thorax and abdomen regions... Mom got worried about them being TERMITES... Juan goes online to search for termite identification guides, and comes across this site that has a nice large picture of the termite royal couple. The adult male termite on the left looks EXACTLY like the 10 plus insects that we managed to catch (and half squish at the same time), so... Plus, the same site states that termites have relatively straight antennae and thicker waists as compared to ants that have bent (elbow-like) antennae and narrow waists.... Uh oh... Another site says something abt their swarming period being from early Mar til May (tho' since it is a US site, I have no idea if the same can be said of Singapore) Since Juan is NOT an entomologist (neither is she aspiring to be one), she doesn't know wat to make out of this whole thing... Oh well.... Really hope that this is not some termite infestation (an infestation w a whole bunch of NOT worker or soldiers but MALE termites?!?) but just a bunch of stray (and lost!) males....

Culture Presentation.... Comparison of Children Festivals in Japan & Singapore

White
Your color is white.... The purest of all, you live to serve, and make others happy... You never anger, always understand, and always do what is right... You are almost angelic... You are trustworthy and friendly....
Yea.... Juan is having fun doing silly quizzes again (How on earth is that color above white?!? Ain't it more like OFF-white?!?) It's a great way to de-stress ya know!!
Anyway, it seems that Juan keeps on finding more and more friends with blogs, and the sidebar keeps getting longer and longer.... Oh well... Think that calls for a massive organising of the blog pretty soon (ok, maybe NOT so soon but after the exams... during the hols... Juan seems to keep on saying this, doesn't she?)

Ranting Time!!!!
1) Marine eco report dued this friday, and I STILL dunno how to go about doing it. Hopefully discussing it with Nalini and Desmond later would shed some light.... Plus there is still the 2nd part of the stream eco to do in the lab, with the report dued who-knows-when! And the data is with Martyn (I think)
2) Have culture presentation for TC nxt week, draft dued on Mon...
3) GEM2900 project dued nxt Thu, need to type out my part and email to the rest of the group
4) Body temp regulation assignment dued sometime nxt week...
5) Eco proj... Prob need to do it this wkend (do hope that Leonard can get hold of his car)... The report is like dued just before reading wk (I think) Plus there is still the counting and identification of the ants....
6) Worst news I just got is that that the dued dates for my ISM papers and presentations got moved fwd by nearly a week. This means that I have like ard a week to get them done once my exams end.... Slightly less than a week to get not 1 but 2 pseudo-71 papers out... So much for relaxing for a day before "pia-ing" again...
7) Plus there is the thing abt starting revision (and preparations of help sheets) early....
Stupid me pressed the backward button on lappie just now, so I had to re-type in like most of this entry all over again... Feel like such an idiot... The slightly better side of things is that Air has sorta ended and Tactics shld end by nxt week (and froth-bite is lagging on their releases), so I have much less anime to keep an eye out for... LOL, Tsubasa is gonna start airing real soon tho' but think I shld have enough "holding area" on my lappie for them til after the exams.... So much for Rachel's observation that I look pretty relax... Guess my daily face is just to expressionless most of the time, plus I do try NOT to think too much abt all of this.... Just had to let all of that out... Feel much better now ^^

最近。。。
3 of them that I am starting to take notice (and some of their roles) are:(1) 鈴村健一 (Suzumura Kenichi) He seems to be a pretty new seiyuu but REALLY like his voice!
- Rakushun (Juuni Kokuki)
- Night (Zettai Kareshi)
(2) 桜井孝広 (Sakurai Katahiro) Pretty popular male seiyuu, and the recent drama CDs of Watase Yuu seem to have him as the seiyuu for one of the male leads!!
- Haruka (tactics)
- Adult Loki (Matantei Loki Ragnarok)
- Rimudo (FYGenbu Kaiden)
- Soushi (Zettai Kareshi)
(3) 雪野五月 (Yukino Satsuki) A pretty popular female seiyuu... Kemin gets excited when she finds out who she has voiced ^^
- Kagome (Inuyasha)
- Takiko (FY Genbu Kaiden)
Honestly, Kemin can probably give more details. I am a real noob when it comes to seiyuu.... Having fun recognising voices tho'
But I really don't have the time to read up more on them *sigh* Oh well, drama CDs ARE a great way to practise for listening compre!!とにかく、the next 2 weeks are gonna be super busy
3 CAs next week (Wed: LSM3251, Thu: ST2238, Fri: LAJ2202) Followed by Pulau Tioman trip from Friday to Sunday. What is it with that weekend?!? I have 2 other things I need to go for on 12 Mar!!!
P3 class reunion.... Haven't seen some of them in a REALLY long while.... There's also a Gen12ii mass training too, plus Maureen Onions is our guest speaker on that day too!! And there's PCG too.... ALL on 12 March...*deep breathe* Shall stop whining.... Can't make multiple mes, so.... Would be back in Singapore on Sunday, and then from Monday to Wednesday, need to help out with the SRP congress. Missing 3 days of lectures... Hmmm... Plus there's the LSM3212 CA on 16 March, as well as the ISM and GEM projects to do!!!! (Not forgetting Gen12ii team trainings....) So, blog updates for the next few weeks would be rather massive ones (if I even bother to update that is!)
I used to have no time to do the things I want to but now I barely have time to do the things I need to do... Busy busy busy! Wallpaper and vector in the state of indefinite hiatus... Both kinda half-done at the moment... Need to await the hols *again*
Side note: Why are my blog entries getting longer & longer? *scratch head*

3-in-1 update...
[Thursday-Howl's Moving Castle]
Yay!!! Finally managed to catch the movie with Kemin and Mingxian ^^ Plus when we came out, we met Weiwen and his friend who were going to catch the next one! Think it is a pretty neat animation adaptation of Diana Wynne Jones' book of the same title... Had taken her story and transformed it into a Ghibli version of it ^^ Tho' one would probably fully enjoy it only if one had read the book before hand. I like the Howl in the anime much better than the wuss (yes, he really is one!) that is protrayed in the book... heehee... No more details from me since I don't want to spoil it for those who have yet to catch it! (I do recommend reading the book first....
I like Jones' style of storytelling, tho' she REALLY likes convoluted plots... Especially when her targeted audience are "older readers" (whatever that means...) The first book or hers that I read was Hexwood, and boy was that storyline mindboggling!! But that in itself was an appeal, and everything just suddenly fell into place in the last few chapters ^^ It's like trying to puzzle out a jigsaw puzzle when all you had were the most obscure bits, then you suddenly uncovered all the corners and edges.... Wants to look for the sequel to Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Air to read.....
[Friday-Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve]
To start of with, silly Juan forgot to bring the digicam that Juan borrowed from Watson, so no photos to show... Gomen ne... Anyway, the afternoon was really hot and humid *perspired the afternoon away* The recent dry spell didn't do the mangrove swamp any good... We went around high tide but the areas nearer the visitor centre were all pretty much dried out... Poor mangrove... Seems like the light rain on Thursday didn't help much... We saw lotsa plants *duh* Quite a few episesarmine crabs at the Kranji broadwalk area, some herons plus another species of bird we could not identify, and a couple of monitor lizards... Poor Leonard got ticked off by our TA, Sean, for being such a photography enthusiast... Time was really limited, so we didn't walk around much, and honestly speaking, saw REALLY little of SBWR *hefty sigh* Took our quiz (Yay!! No report dued!!) and were soon on our way back to NUS... Compared to the last fieldtrip to Labrador, this was rather dull... Anyway, next on the schedule is Pulau Tioman in 2 weeks' time!! (Just after *most* of my CAs...)
[Satuday-Gen12ii Mass Training @ Foochow Methodist Church]
Mom talked to Dad about the trip.... He didn't outright oppose (which is really very good!) tho' he did comment on crime rates in Tokyo... Am still keeping fingers crossed....
Really rainy day... Been such a long time since we had such wet weather! Met most of my team-mates for the very 1st time since we kinda had a team meeting before the mass training.... Quite a number of us are taking/took Japanese ^^ Zhizhen is doing Japanese 6 now! So amazing.... Well, we definitely would find out more about each other over the next few months as we prepare for the trip, as well as go for the trip itself ^^ Altogether, there are 13 of us going to Tokyo... Victor is the staff for our team, while Bixia is with the Nagoya team. Oh yeah, Victor started a team blog (yes, there is gonna be a link on the right) on the Gen12ii webbie, so there would be more general web updates for the team there, as well as my own personal updates here.
There's gonna be another team meeting after the support raising session next Saturday, and we would be assigning roles. By then, we should also have prepared our personal objectives for the trip (after prayer and waiting upon the Lord). Oh boy oh boy oh boy.... Support raising.... Sounds (and feels) very daunting to me.... This is probably a pretty large step of faith for me.... Shan't worry about where the money is gonna come from... Jehovah Jireh, He will provide....
p/s. If anyone is interested in either prayer or financial support, do drop me a note! Thank you!

Quiz: Anime eye color....

Purple! You have purple eyes! You're a dreamer,
artist, poet, whatever. You enjoy all forms of
art and literature, and tend to be quite good
at creating them as well.

James 4:1-10
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever desires to be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us yearns to envy? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says, God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.
Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners; and purify your hearts, double-minded ones. Be afflicted, and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to heaviness. Be humbled before the Lord, and He will lift you up.
I think the Lord really wants me to understand and remember these verses well.... I just did them while preparing for this week's PCGM, and then I turn to today's devotion for Soul Journey, and what do i see? The devotion for the day is James 4:7-10!! LOL... But it does serve as a timely reminder to be constantly onguard against temptations, and to continuously draw near to God. To trust in Him and to just give everything unto him, and to rely on Him. Even more so when we consider the world today, and what is allowed and tolerated....
In light of this, I was also updating my copy of e-Sword, and discovered all the little add-ons that are available (thanks Rick Meyer, and your supporting team!) that include commentaries and dictionaries, on top of the various versions of the Bible that are available ^^ I got the traditional chinese Bible as well, but there wasn't one for japanese... Oh well... guess I have to make do with the one I got off Bible Gateway... except that it has no furigana, so I need to have my kanji dictionary on hand when I read it...
Things to look forward to:(1) Howl's Moving Castle opens in Singapore tmr!! Gonna catch it with a couple of friends from Japanese language class ^^
(2) LSM3251 fieldtrip to Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve on Friday
(3) 1st Gen12ii mass training and meeting of team-mates on Saturday

Adventures with Microfilm II
as i already mentioned, old newspapers are really a lot of fun to read, but definitely (oi~ fansubs, when can u get the spelling of "definitely" correct?!?) not when u have a couple of other projects, tonnes of stuff to study for mid-terms, and have the essay dued in a week's time..... real interesting reading the news as if it is a textbook, and the adverts of companies that are still ard today (HMV, mitsubishi, klim....) is just as amusing (tho' the novelty does wear off after a while)
the microfilm photocopier is pretty nifty! tho' kinda costly at 40 cents per piece.... i now have 12 plus bucks worth of soon-to-be rough paper.... whoppee~~
nvmind me.... just tired, hungry and frustrated... guess that means it is time to go home since anything else i try to do wld be counter-productive....

Eye can see ^^
My eye infection is clearing up pretty nicely ^^ 今、左のは痛くないの。 よかった! すぐ元気になります。 Seems like all the various medications are working nicely. The swelling is going away and now I am no longer irritated with my eye (except that it itches once in a while). Good thing too, since I need to be viewing microfilms in a dimly lit room....
Term break just round the weekend, and I so much catching up to do... Oh no!! *takes deep breath* Would be meeting Mun to do our 2 physio projects, need to finish up SS essay, prepare stats "cheat-sheets" for mid-terms, mug for mid-terms.... Guess catching STUDIO GHIBLI's Howl's Moving Castle wld be the only leisure activity I can plan for.... Walling and changing blog layout needs to wait....
BTW, I have been assigned to the Tokyo team for Gen12ii.... (Japan here I come!!!) Do keep me in prayer, as I haven't told my dad about this and I really don't know how he would take it.... My mom has been convinced but may or may not change her mind....

Adventures with Microfilm I
しかたがないの。。。Need to look at Singapore newspapers from the 1930s for me SS essay...LOL... Only had time to go thru part of the Singapore Nippo, a weekly newspaper that ran from 1938-1939 before I had to go for Japanese lecture (Hey! I skipped my GEM lecture to do this!!) The only catch about that shinbun was that it was generally about Japan related news... I guess it was to keep the Japanese in Singapore updated with the happenings of their home countries (but then why is it in english?!?) It has quite a bit [of propaganda] on Sino-Nippon relations and happenings, such as the good deeds that the Japanese were doing in various parts of China etc. Pretty much filled with pro-Japanese stuff (as expected) Pretty interesting and useful if I am a JS major (that I am NOT) but otherwise quite irrelevant to my assignment qns... There were a whole bunch of interesting adverts tho', like the one about Mitsubishi Shoji Kaisha Ltd as the sole importer of condensed milk (Is this the same Mitsubishi company that is so widespread today?)
I only managed to scan thru' Jan-Mar 1939... Will go thru' the rest of the microfilm tmr after TC I guess.... Then will try my hand at some of the
Guess I would be having a running commentary on me using microfilms so do bear with me ^^ This whole thing abt microfilms is getting me frazzled, and I think I have a little over a wk to finish this....

2nd trip down to UHWC
Speaking of which, I have to take THREE kinds of medications for me eye infection!! Oral antibiotics (tetracycline) in the form of capsules, chloramphenicol eye drops, as well as chloramphenicol eye ointment (that keeps coming out of the tube non-stop, just like UHU glue)... Boy, can just one eye be such a troublesome handful! BTW, pls don;t self medicate based on the stuff I got, do see a doctor if you ever get an eye infection!!
*hefty sigh* NOT looking fwd to the long day ahead of me..... but at least my eye is not as painful any more ^^

Choice...
==========================================
Narrator:
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. One by one, starting from day and night to water and earth, to plants and animals, God made them all and said they were good. On the day God created man........
(God was busy making Adam from the dust of the ground. Seeing one of His angels aproaching, He looks up and seemed pleased)
GOD:
Look at all the creatures I have created. Are they not good? And the universe, the stars and the skies. Are they not beautiful?
ANGEL:
Yes, they are. Truly Magnificent.
GOD:
Look at this creature. (pointing at Adam/man He is creating) He will be different. All the universe will obey me and love me. They will reflect My glory because that is how they are created to do. But this one will be like me. He will have this.
(God reached within Himself and remove something unseen)
GOD:
This is called CHOICE.
ANGEL:
Choice?? (sounding afraid) But.... but what if he choose not to love?
GOD:
Come, I will show you. The fruit of choice is bitter and sweet.
(God makes a sweeping motion and what the angel saw amazed and impressed him)
GOD:
What do you see?
ANGEL:
I see spontaneous love, voluntary devotion, chosen tenderness. There is laughter everywhere and people are so joyful!! Heaven has never seen such beauty. Truly this is Your greatest creation.
GOD:
Yes, but this is only the sweet part of choice. This is the other side.
(God makes another sweeping motion. What the angel saw shocked and disgust him)
ANGEL:
Lord, I see wars and, suffering, and rotten hearts!!!! Is this the result of choice also?
GOD:
Yes.
ANGEL:
They will forget you?
GOD:
Yes.
ANGEL:
They will reject you??
GOD:
Yes.
ANGEL:
They will never come back?
GOD:
Some will. Most won't.
ANGEL:
What will make them listen???
(God looks at the angel and was silent. Understanding dawns and the angel was horrified)
ANGEL:
NO!! It cannot be!! How can you send Jesus down there, to die a horrible, painful and humiliating death?!? To be beaten up and then crucified, and hung on the cross. So much pain and suffering!! Is there no other way,Lord??
GOD:
No.
ANGEL:
There has to be another way!!! What if You don't plant the seed of choice?? Wouldn't that be easier?? Please tell me there is another way!!
GOD:
There is no other way. I cannot take away choice. Take away choice, and you take away Love. Robots cannot love. Even if they do, it will because they have to. Not because they want to. That is not real love. It will be less painful, but it wouldn't love.
Narrator:
The angel leaves, feeling sadness. God looks at His clay creation. Love swells up within Him and He bends over the clay form, and breathes into it.
God had a choice to put the seed of choice in man. And He chose to. He knew that He will lose us and yet created us. The most beautiful of all is that He gave us a choice to love Him back, because He first loved us.
That choice cost Him a lot. It cost Him His Son.
Man had chosen to sin and was separated from God. And God knew from the beginning, that the only way to bring us back to Him was to send His ONLY Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for us.
The choice is ours. Have there been times where you doubt God's power? Surely, if He was the God who made the heavens and the earth, how could He allow my friend to die? How could He allow millions to starve every night? Isn't God supposed to be the Almighty?
Let's stop blaming God and blame ourselves. He spared not even himself to save us.

LSM3251 - Labrador Park Fieldtrip
*drumrolls*
spiders!!! pretty interesting since the lecturer is from the spider lab ^^ out of the 5 practical groups there were at least 3 groups doing something regarding those cool spiders at lab park (ther was one group doing something about ants tho') our group decided to relate web-size with type of habitat (open vs. enclosed) my sub-group was to do enclosed, meaning in the forest area, so we trooped up the hill and had a fun spider spotting amidst the greenery... leonard and i went trigger happy at the same time, taking photos of nature... that's leonard below taking a photo at one of the spiders we traumatised ^^ kinda bad enough that we were disturbing their webs by taking measurements, and we JUST had to take photos of there once in a while too!
since i kinda just borrowed a very basic digicam from wai, the 10 over pics i took of spiders and insects were mainly out of focus... that's a real pity since the weather was fab and the insects were all nicely posing for us! kinda sad that the photo of the 6-legged spider (i am pretty sure it is a wounded spider since it had like 4 legs on one side and 2 on the other..) didn't turn out... besides, leonard and i were very fascinated by this nice LONG, succulent earthworm we saw (kristal i do hope u are NOT reading this!) it was just so gorgeous! anyway, only ONE of the "creatures" photos that i took came out a little decent... see if u can spot Mr Nephila antipodiana, with the spotted abdomen in the photo below... (yeah yeah, i KNOW i am not one of the best photographers, but.... anyway, watson said i cld borrow his spare digicam, so i do hope the photos from the next fieldtrip to sungei buloh wld turn out better)
well... all i have to do now is to do the report that is dued on wed.... (why is it that we have less than a week to do it?!?)
p/s. was at JEC for lunch on sunday, and there was a howl's moving castle poster!!!! it opens in singapore on 24 feb ^^ yay!! can go watch another film directed by Miyazaki Hayao sensei! Bansai!

This is simply amazing!!! ^^
So far lecturers (mainly my life science ones) have only been taking obtuse jibes at Christianity and the whole idea of creationalism, and other lecturers have advertised for CCAs activities. ANd I think it is really encouraging to the Christians (or at least me) that he was so ready to invite us students for the ALPHA course dinner. Really shld try to have more faith in how the Lord wld move and just take a bold step in sharing. Just like how my lecturer has. Got to go home soon since I still need to go print tmr's lecture notes and prepare for the field trip to Labrador Park (which the next blog entry wld prob be abt)

よかった!!! =^-^=
appeal for taking japanese 3 got through, and i still have more than 200 points left in my general account! 幸せ! and all this was done in time for the tutorial registrations ^^ now i gotta wait (and pray) that i get all my 1st choices, or else my timetable sure is gonna be messed up... heehee...
also went for a workshop on conversational evangelism (organised by SCCC) on saturday by dave geisler from meekness and truth ministries. really useful in teaching the 100 odd of us how to evangelise through even simple conversations with people around us. do hope i can put what i have learnt into practise!
managed to find a nice theme for my firefox browser, and foudn some really nice themes/skins for my windows too!! so now i have a mac-ish kinda look at the moment, as shown in the thumbnail below (well... i might as well post it here since i did a screencap for the KAA forum thread)
managed to start clearing some of the junk in the drawers of my table, and i am so amazed at how much crap i actually kept... all the u-weekly and i-weekly... started clearing them out, so felling a little accomplished at the moment ^^
guess that's all the updating i'll do for now... going to scan and upload some more of the sketches. じゃね!!

it's the 2nd day of lessons and i have had 2 lectures, nothing really heavy yet.. but the stats gem was a little mind boggling, esp since i barely recall most of me stats at the moment. the video (under another sun) that we watched this morning during japan and singapore was really interesting =^-^= did learn some interesting things about relations between singapore and japan. do think i'll enjoy this module!
okie, think i have betta get down to printing notes for st2238 tmr, as well as the IR readings for ssa2205... jya ne!

Clearing of Junk - Part II
anyway, on the tsunami disaster, our ym has a condolence page (see link on right) Really pray that the rain would let up some what, so that the aid and search and rescue people can get access to the most devastated areas. I nearly cried
when I saw the before and after satellite pics of acheh, indonesia... everything destroyed by the waves... really think that all the affected areas would need loads of long term aid. It really is time for all of us to make a diff in this world

Merry Christmas everybody!!!
... [the Magi] went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went on ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood.

Prob the last post til sometime after Christmas...
For those people who need good books to read, I recommend books by C.S. Lewis. The 7 books in the Narnia series (The Magician's Nephew; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; The Boy and His Horse; Prince Caspian; The Voyage of Dawn Treader; The Silver Chair; The Last Battle) are targeted for children, but I still love them all the same! It's a pretty neat parallel of some parts of the Bible. Hey, don't go away thinking that he only writes kid's books! The Screwtape Letters is really amusing too!! And I wanna read finish The Great Divorce (of heaven and hell) and Mere Christianity that I borrowed from Kemin ^-^ Which reminds me.... need to remember to borrow Rachel's Tears from Wendy too!
Added a link to The New Adventures of Bobbin! (look to the right) Who would have thot that Joyce's Bobbin series that started in our sec days would have lasted so long, and been featured in the news and still be online!! =^-^=

Finally... LOTR-ROTK extended version!!!
57 minutes, 04 seconds later...
disc 1 down, 3 more to go... still struck by how peter jackson can jumble up the sequence of events so nicely yet still keep true to the story that j.r.r. tolkien weaved so many years ago... the sequence is soo messed up, shows how good he is as a storyteller himself =^-^= and howard shore's music *sigh* it's a good team alright! reminds me of the when i went to the LOTR exhibition quite some time back and was just gasping at the details and intricacies of all the props. the design team and backstage crew really did a fab job *thumbs up* just think about the scale and detail of minas tirith *swoon*
yet when i compare all this that men (and women) have done to the splendour of this universe, it alll pales in comparison... the the Lord God can come up with something as tiny yet complex as a cell, that can work by itself or in conjunction with milloins or others... that He can at the same time come up with the complexity of the galaxy, the stars, the blackholes and all, and that we as humans are barely scratching the surface of things... i can only stand in awe of His works... totally stunned into amazement. He is really beyond what we can imagine ^-^ thank goodness for that! ('cos i am just so inapt and inadequate as a person)
even as i continue to watch the rest of lord of the rings - the return of the king, i prepare and wait for the return of not only THE King, but the King of Kings

Clearing of Junk - Part I
During YM this morning, there was an oppotunity for us to bring our junk and rubbish that we feel that the Lord is leading us to get rid of from our lives, and I placed some of my stuff there at the altar. You gotta ask me personally what it was that was discarded, I'm not gonna mention here. My heart was just pounding as I placed it in the trash bag but after praying to the Lord and asking Him to give me wisdom and a heart of discernment to know what he wants me to trash and to keep OUT of my life, there was this sense of peace in spite of the heartache that I felt. Following which, the Lord just placed on my heart even more stuff I needed to trash!! The Lord really knows me very well. If I was told at one shot what to trash, I would just start rationalising. I just have this feeling that with every time I trash stuff in a prayerful manner, and I wait and listen to Him, He would just lead and challenge me to trash even more stuff.
Just reached home, and as I started chucking *quite* a few books, I really felt the pinch. All the effort I spent saving up the money to buy them. *ouch* SQ now I *really* know what u meant about that "hole" u would feel. Was so tempted to open them and just start reading them one last time before trashing.... knowing that my conviction to trash them would not stand up if I started reading, I just taped the stuff in a Kinokuniya plastic bag. Kinda ironic since I bought quite a bit of them Kinokuniya... sorry Chris, but Shaman King is in there too. (No... not all of it is manga... chinese books are there too...) Another lesson that I think the Lord was also teaching me was that I have to spend money wisely. Our treasure is not of this world, so why spend money on things that you would need to clear out of your life anyway? Especially if it's gonna hurt..... *heartache*
On the issue of anime, I think I would still be watching anime (partly as a form of practising my japanese as well as relaxation) but the Lord definitely wants me to be a whole lot more selective about the anime I watch. Meaning NO more Kannadzuki no Miko for me!!
Lord, please give me the strength and conviction to see this cleaning process through. Not only for me but to the other YMers whom You have also spoken to. Father Lord, I pray that You would continue to fill us with Your Holy Spirit and a loving heart for others, and to teach us to continue obeying You, and to stand firm against things that You have warned us of. Thank you so much Lord!

F.L.A.P. in Christ
Also, I need to be more conscientious about what I read and watch, not to just write anything off as "just a story/show". Things are probably deeper that what first appearances represent, and it's when the subtle influences around us take hold that things can become really dangerous. Really need to be more discerning, with all the many different kinds of influences (many but not all bad) all around us. I even went as far as to delete this really nice wallpaper of Lucifer from Angel Sanctuary....as nice as the wallpaper was, it's still, well, a wallpaper of Lucifer, and no matter what the context, I am not to endorse satan...clearing my stuff really is gonna be tough... need to rely on Jesus, and do all these through His strength and will that there would be no other idols or things in my life that i would place before Him.
oh yeah, alvin called on the last nite of camp. he's going to thailand for a mission trip from 11th to 20th dec. will definitely keep my kor and his team in prayer. *goes and prints out email*

more words from me ^-^
anyway, i watched Final Fantasy: the spirits within yesterday. (yes i know that i am kinda laggie since this like came out quite some time back) no matter how many times i see the FF CGIs, i still am amazed at how well it is done! LOTR ones bland in really well in the overall movie (except weird stuff like when legolas does a really awkward leaping style while mounting a horse in 2 towers ^-^ the storyline is pretty decent, as with the ff series (as far as i know, since i haf yet to play a single one, since the proper equipment are lacking aka no ps2) *partial spoiler* the idea of needing 8 spirits (all from differing levels of biological diversity) in order to counter the invasion of the phantoms is rather nifty. call me naive or idealistic but i really love the idea of unity and cooperation for the good of all. taking the road less travelled instead of resorting to the easiest answer of violence.
just went to kinokuniya to collect the kino no tabi vol I novel i ordered (plus bought some other manga in chinese) since 2 of my frens, kemin and liling would be heading over to japan in dec, i'll be getting them to help buy the other 6 kino novels (3 books each) hehz... =^-^= must remember to remind them again just after the exams. but even if they forget, i can always order thru kinokuniya (getting kino fr kino) since i am fortunate enough to have a few branches in singapore! but need to get kanji dictionary next... prob in dec since exams are drawing near and i stil haf my lsm2201 report dued on thu... the dictionary would def be a great help, esp since nxt sem i'll prob be taking jap 3 where there wld be loads of compo writing, and besides, i borrowed a folktale-ish book, 「神々のたたり」 (kamigami no tatari; curse of the gods) from the japanese collection in the NUS chinese lib... the simplest book i could find there, but still can't understand everything. がんばらなければ ならない よ!

Mangroves, さよなら!!
anyway, the chain of cathay cinemas in Singapore would be showing this new Japanese movie 「海猿」 appears to be a story about a group of 14 guys who wanna be come naval divers.... there's a review in english here. The director is Hasumi Eiichiro, and the trailer makes it look rather interesting. ぜひ見たいよ! pretty interesting that I would actually be interested in a Japanese show that is NOT アニメ (animated film) LOL but will try and check it out after my exams *crosses fingers and hopes that it would still be showing after the exams*
wrapping up YM camp registration this sunday, and handing over the collection of camp fees to the corinne and joel tan ^-^ now zeal and i would be free to help grace and lester with the groupings and preparation of the sleeping logistics... *must remember to get the list of loving adults from wendy*
10 days to exams, 21 days to camp...

New book!
please don't be mistaken and think that my japanese is actually good enough that i can actually fully understand the entire novel.... prob only around lower primary level at best... just that i like the style of kino no tabi (plus i know chinese, so the meaning of the kanji can be glimpsed) ^-^ *meow* prob need to invest in a kanji dictionary during the holidays... interesting fact...the illustrator of kino no tabi has a pretty interesting kanji name.... kuroboshi kouhaku.... but the kanji mean "black star red white".... wellz, my profile pic is kino ^-^ really like the anime, can't wait for the movie to be out next year!

countdown: 2 more weeks....
anyway, i deleted sekai no shio. why? 'coz i realise that each entry here is actually a testimony of what God is doing in my life. an online record of wat's happening (of course there would be stuff that's just too private to share online...that's wat my journal's for!!) ahwell...since nothing was posted there in the first place....
projects and camp registration are driving me a little mad....i do complain a tad bit too much but that's one way to let me calm down and re-look the situations from another angle. sudden influx of people signed up (which is good) but the sudden influx just gives us (me and zealyn) a whole lot of work to do (esp since at least me is already bogged down with stuff) do hope that zealyn can cope.... i really dun like the fact that i appear dependable when i actually am quite a slacker who just wants to enjoy life... sigh...
okie...back to doing changes for my SP2172 report....
